Stress and the benefits of hypnotherapy
Stress is a catch all term that describes a state from mild irritation, to a severe condition that can cause a real breakdown in health.
Most people can cope with moderate amounts of stress, it is very much part of our modern day lives and therefore we seem to factor it in. However, long-term chronic stress is so often emotionally, psychologically and physically damaging and extremely difficult to live with.
The first signs of stress differ from person to person and are not always easy to spot. In fact, the person suffering from stress may not display any physical symptoms or may hide them as they worry what people may think. Therefore, signs of stress can often only be spotted by the people close to us.
Some common symptoms of stress:
The list is not exhaustive and as everyone is different, not everyone will suffer from all of the conditions listed; however, all these conditions are commonly associated with stress:
- irritable with other people
- bad temper, including sudden outburst
- no patience
- tearful and will cry for no apparent reason
- insomnia – difficulty getting to sleep or staying asleep
- stomach upsets
- panic attacks
- digestive disorders (i.e. Irritable Bowel Syndrome)
- headaches or migraine
- lack of interest in things
- feeling faint or dizzy
- muscular pain
- stiff neck or shoulders
- back pain
- feelings of tension in stomach
- inability to relax
- lack of concentration.
Sometimes a person can get caught in a stress cycle, involving the 'tension-worry-symptoms-tension' cycle. Therefore, the best time to take action against stress is at an early stage, before the problem can get out of control.
