Stopping smoking can be fun with hypnotherapy

Stopping smoking is usually thought to be a difficult and even painful process. Something to be avoided - it’s easier just to carry on with the ‘old friend’ smoking. Even though we all know the reality of what the ‘old friend’ is actually doing to us.

Nowadays the reality can be seen everywhere from TV adverts through to social media. We all know someone whose life has been affected negatively by smoking. But somehow it is easier to ignore that and carry on.

Of course, that is the fault of the addiction. As human beings we have a strong drive for self-preservation. Generally we will do anything to stay safe and alive. But addictions are so strong that they even override that basic instinct to live and we carry on with behaviours that, logically, we know are harming us.

I started this article with the idea that stopping could be fun - something to look forward to. I believe that with hypnotherapy this can be true.

I’m certainly not saying that stopping smoking will be ‘a piece of cake’. No hypnotherapist has a magic wand to wave that will instantly turn you into a non-smoker. But the process of stopping could be easier and quicker than you once thought was possible.

A reputable hypnotherapist will talk to you about your reasons and motivations for wanting to stop smoking. They will talk to you about your life, your family, your work and any stresses that you may have. They will help you to identify your triggers - the times and places where you might struggle to give up. Then they will assess all of that information to choose the right techniques to use with you.

Some of those techniques might make you stop and think about your life, and they might make you a bit tearful. Others might make you angry at the tobacco companies, or the younger you for ever starting. Some will make you giggle and laugh.

Overall, at the end of your session you will probably feel relaxed and be looking forward to a healthier, happier and more financially rewarding life. This is a really great feeling. To know that you are now a non-smoker and that you have everything in place for that to continue for the rest of your life. After hypnotherapy many people say that they simply never think about smoking again after their session. Some people do have ‘shaky’ moments but they use the tools that they are taught during their session to remain on track.

Of course, hypnotherapy isn’t right for everyone and most hypnotherapists will talk to you before booking your session so you can both agree if it is the right approach and even the right time for you.

So, you might be surprised at how much fun you can have as you look forward to a life free from that ‘old friend’ smoking.
