Phobias and hypnotherapy

How did your phobia develop?

Simple, you learned it.

A phobia is a learned behaviour and if you can learn to have a phobia you can unlearn it and learn to react differently.

You were not born with your phobia and chances are you cannot remember the event(s) that taught you to react or behave in the way you currently do.

You know it is irrational yet cannot seem to do anything about it.

Let's make up a possible scenario using a spider phobia.

This is an imaginary example only.

Imagine a child of say three years of age, happily playing on the carpet with parent(s) in the room and a spider runs across the floor, not bothering the child. However one or both of the parents freak out, jump up and scream. Still not bothering the child and a few days later the same thing happens and parent(s) react by screaming and or running away. This child is now paying attention to parent(s) behaviour.

The next time this happens this child's subconscious has learned that this is what we do when a spider is visible because parents do this and they must be right because they are grown ups. Until the subconscious receives new learning it will continue to behave in the way it was taught. This can best be achieved in the Hypnotic state of deep relaxation.

Is hypnotherapy a good way to resolve a phobia?

One of the best methods to overcoming this condition is in my opinion hypnotherapy.

In hypnosis you are always alert, aware and awake and no hypnotherapist can make you do anything which would be against you own ethics so you make all the decisions.

If you are unsure about hypnotherapy then have a chat with a few hypnotherapists before deciding. Many provide a FREE initial consultation with no obligation to continue.

Hypnotherapists are only a conduit to help you behave in the way you wish to, not the way we think you should.

Using modern day NLP techniques combined with hypnosis, many phobias can be resolved quickly.

Sometimes it is necessary to find the cause and a skilled hypnotherapist will guide you back to that time/event in complete safety. Once there the hypnotherapist will help you make the changes you wish to.

Don't continue to suffer with a phobia, get some help from a professional hypnotherapist. Choose one who is registered and insured and who has experience of working with phobias. If possible, read any reviews they have, this will be a good indicator.
