Banish your flying phobia

If you have a fear of flying, you are not alone. The flying phobia is one of the more common fears that affects millions of people around the world. The causes range from having a bad experience on a flight such as rough turbulence or an emergency landing. However, the more common sources come from extensions of other phobias such as fear of heights or claustrophobia which can be triggered by the relatively small size of the plane’s interior.

For those who do not have a fear of flying, it can be difficult to relay just how a person feels who is afflicted with this phobia. In addition, it can affect anyone at any age, gender, cultural background, or education. The symptoms common with flying phobia include, but are not limited to the following:

Over the decades, there have been many different treatments for flying phobia which range from psychotherapy to medications used to calm the nerves. However, hypnosis has proven to be one of the more effective techniques for dealing with this particular phobia.

How hypnosis works

Basically, hypnosis connects to the subconscious where it can help change the behaviors and thoughts that the mind associates with flying. While it cannot remove the fear itself, it can provide far greater control over the feeling and help tamp down the anxiousness that often accompanies flying phobia.

The hypnotherapist will start the first session by getting to know you better and searching for the triggers that start the flying phobia. They will take into account the information you have provided so they can see the pattern which triggers the fear of flying to occur. At this point, the hypnotherapist will put you into a trance which is essentially a relaxed state of mind and lead you through images of purchasing tickets, boarding the flight, and taking off to see where a trigger for your fears might occur.

Once you start feeling the sensation of fear, the hypnotherapist will provide you with calming words and suggestions that will help manage your emotional state. The purpose is to provide you with the power to calm your fears.

Self-hypnosis

Once you have completed the first session, the hypnotherapist will arm you with techniques of self-hypnosis so that way you can continue the treatment sessions on your own. Soon, you’ll be able to fly and use the techniques to help calm down and keep your fears in their proper perspective.

Hypnosis brings a sense of calm, a more relaxed feeling that brings more control and helps you feel safer. By using the techniques of hypnosis, a person suffering from flying phobia can do a number of things to combat the triggers and control the fear. By recognising what brings on the fear of flying, hypnosis can assist in changing your reaction to something more positive.
