Anger, a wasted emotion
Imagine suffering from this most wasted emotion.
Anger is a wasted emotion.
Perhaps a tightness in your chest.
A continuing negative thought.
Heart rate increases.
Alternatively something triggers a shortness of breath or something akin to a panic attack.
You are coiled ready for "action" whatever that might be.
Relationships destroyed because of anger moments.
You know this is an irrational reaction, yet it continues.
People react in different ways as we are all individuals.
Some cope better than others and can manage the emotion.
We can learn to manage anger and it is possible to stop this negative emotion.
What caused this?
Do you remember?
If this is caused by an individual who did something to you that causes this reaction in certain situations, have you ever considered 'forgiveness'? You are the only person who is feeling this, whoever caused it probably does not know you have this anger issue.
By forgiveness I do not mean condoning what happened.
Remember what Nelson Mandela said about forgiving his jailers.
He said if he continued to hate them he was still in his prison cell, so he let it go.
That is one great solution "let it go". Once you let it go your life will improve.
If you are unable to let go then you can learn to manage your anger.
Some simple tips are;
- recognise your own signs of anger developing
- stop and think
- take deep slow breathes until you feel yourself calming down
- exercise regularly
- catch your thought and spin it
- change any negative thought to a positive one - practice makes perfect
- talk to a friend
- get a new perspective
- change words in your thoughts e.g. change should to could
- avoid alcohol - alcohol will not help, it can do the opposite
- learn self hypnosis to enable relaxation
- seek professional help.
