Annette runs a busy private practice in Twemlow, Cheshire.

As a fully qualified integrative psychotherapist, I use a wide range of techniques, including Hypnosis, Solution focused Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioural Counselling, with a focus on ‘Positive Psychology’, ‘Transpersonal Psychology’, and Compassion Focused Therapy. I also incorporate, mindfulness- based approaches. I am a registered OCD and Anxiety Disorders Hypnosis specialist.

Specialist interests include: Anxiety, Obsessive Compulsive disorder - using a combination of Cognitive Behavioural Counselling and Hypnotherapy, based on the work of Professor Jeffrey Schwartz and the 4-step programme; Stress management, performance enhancement and achievement; confidence, self-esteem, Alcohol problems, Insomnia, Motivation, Chronic fatigue & Fibromyalgia.

As a full member of The United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapists (UKCP) The Complementary and Natural Health Care Council (CNHC), a fellow of the national Society for Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (FNSHP), and the Hypnotherapy Association, a strict code of conduct and ethics bind me, and in meeting all registration requirements. This includes continued professional development and regular clinical supervision.

I am chair of the board of trustees for Anxiety UK and I am a keen advocate of their work.

My continuous professional development is on-going and now includes completion of an intensive course in Mindful self-compassion taught by Professor Kristin Neff and Christopher Germer, PhD. I completed their teacher training in Mindful Self Compassion at Bangor University in 2014 and am now a ‘trained Mindful Self-Compassion programme teacher’.

I continue personal development to enhance the quality of my clinical practice through the daily formal and informal practice of meditation and mindfulness. I have completed the one -year mindfulness training with the Mindfulness Association and the 8- week MBSR in 2011 and, one- year training in Compassion in 2015.

I trained with the Transpersonal Hypnotherapy teacher and trainer Jack Elias in October 2014.

As a ‘trained teacher’ of the Mindful Self-Compassion programme. I am one of the first cohort of European teachers in this field in the UK.

In November 2016, I completed intensive training to become one of the first cohort of teachers outside the US to teach ‘Making friends with yourself-MSC for teens and young adults’

As a trained Mindful self-compassion teacher and believe firmly that mindfulness has an important role to play in the wellbeing and positive emotional functioning of every student undertaking academic study.

I am included on the directory of ‘Trained Mindful Self-Compassion programme teachers’ around the world with the Centre for Mindful Self-Compassion.

I offer mindfulness and compassion-focused courses and workshops for ME/CFS/Fibromyalgia/stress management/Eating well/Sleeping well.

Self -care core skills (incorporating mindfulness and self-compassion) helping people to form healthy habits and strategies for eating well, exercising, sleeping well, and getting the work-life balance right.

Compassionate and effective communication – working as a team, valuing ourselves and the work we do so we can ‘own our contribution’, acknowledging our own and each -other’s achievements, recognising and respecting individual differences.

I am a published author of a research study:

“A study of participation in a compassion-focused therapeutic well-being programme: Cancer patients’ experiences of a well-being programme which focuses on compassion for self and others” (The British Psychological Society North East Branch Newsletter issue 8 spring 2013).

I can be regularly heard on local radio stations such as Silk FM, Capital Radio, High Peak Radio, and Radio Derby. My articles have regularly featured in local press.

I am well versed in social media as a way of reaching out to a wider audience, utilising, Facebook, twitter, linked in and Hoot suite, and updating my own website regularly.

I produce a regular newsletter to inform people of tips and techniques, including a blog on current topics and details of all my workshops and courses.

I am a published author in ‘the Hypnotherapist’ The journal for the Hypnotherapy association and have further articles published in the online magazine ‘healthy new age’ and the ‘Heartworks’ blog. I have published MSc research with The British Psychological Society.

My online newsletter is published monthly and includes tips and techniques for health and well-being, recommended reading, and links to further resources.  My MSc research has now been published as an article for the British Psychological society.

Training, qualifications & experience

A private practitioner since 1998, Annette trained in counselling skills at St Helens College. Also trained in Eriksonian Hypnotherapy; Psychotherapy; Counselling; Cognitive Therapy; and Neuro- Linguistic Programming at The National School of Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (N-SHAP), Regents Park College, London. Annette qualified as a hypno-psychotherapist in 1998. Becoming an advanced hypno-psychotherapist in 2000. Annette also holds an MSc in Transpersonal psychology and a BSc (hons) in psychology.

The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.

In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.

A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

Members must adhere to approved Codes of Ethics and Practice and be accountable to UKCP Complaints and Appeals Procedures.
