About me

(For more information about my practice please visit my website..)

My background is in Mental Health and I have worked for the NHS, private and voluntary sector for the past 6 years. My qualifications are in Clinical Hypnotherapy (D.Hyp.), Psychology (MSc.), Social Anthropology (B.A.) and Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy (CBT). I also run popular Mindfulness Meditation classes for anxiety and depression.

My interest in hypnotherapy was sparked by a two-day workshop on self-hypnosis. Before this I had no idea that it was possible to self-hypnotise from the comfort of my own home. I was also surprised to learn how hypnotherapy can significantly improve the quality of life and well-being of people with a whole host of emotional, psychological and physical conditions. After a lot of research into the theory and efficacy of the practice, I made the decision to train in Clinical Hypnotherapy and I haven't looked back since!

Prior to this, I worked in industry including, the retail, financial, voluntary and public sector. This experience gave me a good grounding in business management and customer service. It was here that I also witnessed the emotional, physical and psychological fallout that, at some point in our lives, we will all be touched by, irrespective of our job spec, CEO's included! It soon became apparent that any industry can take its toll on employees if the well-being of staff is not a priority; something that is a difficult balance for any company to maintain in today's frantic world. That said, the first-hand experience of demanding workloads has served me well in private practice; I can certainly empathise with clients who are themselves seeking respite and relaxation as a result of increasing demands and responsibilities at work.

I now live in Wincanton, Somerset, having relocated in 2019 from Scotland.

My Practice

I was fortunate enough to train with John Dewar's School of Hypnotherapy and I now work from Stewarton in private practice as a Clinical Hypnotherapist. My client base is diverse and I am qualified to work with adults aged 16 and above. Anyone can self-refer to my practice and a free initial consultation is offered to all prospective clients, with no commitment to engage in treatment following this.

I bring to my practice extensive knowledge and skills of working with a wide spectrum of emotional, behavioural and psychological difficulties. As a hypnotherapist, I work with a range of presenting problems, psychological and behavioural, including, smoking cessation, weight control and stress to more complicated psychological presentations involving past traumatic events.

One significant reason for pursuing a career in hypnotherapy was the solid evidence-base and its success rate at treating more severe and enduring mental health problems including social anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), eating disorders and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Having worked with clients experiencing significant impairments and obstacles in daily life for some years, I am thrilled to be able to offer a therapy that gets results (fast!) and one that lasts the test of time.
