How I became a Hypnotherapist

For 35 years I worked across manufacturing, wholesale & retail industries in buying, merchandising & admin roles up to management level.  I have changed jobs and career a few times and I have worked with the best people (and sometimes the worst).  As a result I have experienced the stresses, the anxieties, and the worries that those types of environments can bring.

Additionally, either myself or members of my close family have faced relationship anxiety, exam anxiety, postnatal depression, lack of confidence and self-esteem issues, loss and grief.  This means I am able to relate to the majority of my clients enabling me to fully understand what they are experiencing.

A change in circumstances led me to looking at how I could help others with these types of conditions, and I discovered Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (SFH). I enrolled, trained and graduated and here I am, a practising clinical hypnotherapist and psychotherapist, and I love every minute of it.

I am passionate about helping you make a positive difference in your life.   If I sound like the type of therapist you could get on with,  why not get in touch? Email me to set up an initial consultation today, I'd love to hear from you.

Testimonials

The sessions I had with Sue have helped me immeasurably and helped me gain a positive perspective on the issues that I have struggled with since childhood. Listening to the download is an extremely relaxing and calming experience and I can honestly say I look forward to losing myself listening to Sue’s very calming reassuring voice.

I cannot recommend this lovely lady enough. Talked me through the whole procedure before my appointment so I knew what I was expecting. Never did I think I could quit smoking without giving in. Thank you so much for all your help :-)

Both R & I would like to thank you so much for you help dealing with his exam & test anxiety. His recent assessments have been much more relaxed, with less worry & upset for both of us.  I know that R will be able to put all you taught him (& me) into practice for his mocks in January & GCSE's next Summer. Hopefully his results will be as impressive.

Sue helped me massively with a huge phobia of vomit which I didn’t think I’d ever get over! Wouldn’t recommend someone more.

I cannot tell you how much you have helped me. Your words have finally given me the confidence to enjoy sober parties. Friday was a fab night & I remember everything from a lunch yesterday. I feel quite triumphant. I can't say it will happen every time but a small step has been achieved. You can put that on your website....I mean every word. xxx

I cannot recommend Sue enough. She has helped me so much over the past few months in reassessing my outlook on life and working towards a positive and calm attitude. The hypnotherapy is extremely relaxing and tailored towards what aspect of your life you would like to improve. I would recommend to anyone struggling with specific issues as well as those just looking for a generally more positive outlook.

Hi Sue. My journey was the best I'd had in years!! I felt no anxiety on the way or at the airport. I did feel a little bit when I got on the plane & taking off but nowhere near what I used to, Jason couldn't believe the difference! Thank you. Onwards & upwards. xxx

The sessions I had with Sue provided the “reset” I needed to get my stress level at a manageable level and my sleep pattern back to a healthy pattern. This in turn gave me the tools that helped me deal with a more long running issue.I thoroughly recommend her service. Her approach is absolutely on point - friendly , non judgmental and encouraging.

I could discuss my feelings & anxieties freely. Sue listened carefully & supported me at each stage - when I laughed and cried!

Sue has helped me through a dark period in my life and I thank her for showing me the way through my anxiety and lack of confidence. Thank you, Sue, for showing me how to be myself once more and putting the past behind me

I really enjoyed our sessions. I liked the talking section particularly & where I gained most insight. I still use the download you sent me, it's a very useful tool, with all the other things you taught me.  Your very gentle nature made it very easy for me to open up to you & take on board what you said and make me feel very relaxed. I am very grateful for my sessions with you.

Who am I?

Following my training I see the world in a much more balanced way and now I ensure I have a life away from work.

I have a fantastic (at times) husband,  2 wonderful (occasionally) boys, 2 cats and a dog, Willow.  I am lucky enough to have a good set of friends and a great family who are the best support network.

I love walking in the countryside with my husband & my son’s, along with Willow (the inspiration for the name and my little therapy dog).  We love the Lake District, we often go for weekends away there, but we do love to discover our beautiful & varied country, sampling the sights, sounds & food wherever we go.  I enjoy gardening & holidays in the sunshine.

I also like to read, my head is usually in a book relating to hypnotherapy, psychotherapy, the brain – it’s interesting stuff honestly.  Downtime is essential for my mental health & for all the family, so I prioritise that for all of us.

My room is a dedicated professional space which is welcoming, comfortable & relaxing.  Based in my home there is the advantage of plenty of free parking and few comings & goings ensuring that it is a quiet space enabling clients to relax & focus more easily.

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy is an effective combination of talking therapy and hypnosis which enables me to help people relax, regenerate & grow.

SFH combines psychotherapies with hypnotherapy, a hypno-psychotherapy.  The psychotherapy I use is called Solution Focused Brief Therapy; I encourage my clients to find positive solutions and focus on achieving future goals one small step at a time.  Very different to ‘conventional therapy’ which involves focusing on historical issues.  The ethos of SFBT is, “You don’t need to know what a problem is in order to solve it”.

SFH combines Solution Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) with key aspects of Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) & Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP); which when used together can be a powerful combination & which provides me with a number of tools to help you.

Essentially, I then combine these approaches with a calming relaxing trance.  This reinforces the message of the session and the goals you have set; much more effective than just talking about it.  The trance also helps create change allowing you to move forward within a relatively quick time frame & break negative behaviours.

As a brain-based therapist, I am able to use the latest neuroscientific research to educate and empower you so you can understand what is happening, what is making you behave, think & act the way you are and what I am able to do to help you to use your own initiative & to innovate and get the real person back.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy focuses on positivity & avoiding the negative, traumatic events from the past helps engaged clients to recover quickly & effectively.  SFH is a measurable therapy where clients are able to see the progress they are making week on week.   I combine this with the mindfulness techniques I have learnt & practised myself – another tool for clients to take away with them.
