About me

Background and qualifications:

I am a qualified, professional hypnotherapist and mindfulness teacher, based in North Leeds. I originally trained as a doctor and worked as a psychiatrist with a special interest in addiction therapy. I stopped practicing several years ago to have my family and am now a mother of three young children. My background in medicine and psychiatry has given me knowledge of the body, mental health, pharmacology and ethics.

I have used talking therapies such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), family therapy, psychodynamic psychotherapy and motivational interviewing. I now work as a hypnotherapist. I offer one to one sessions for hypnotherapy, stress management, smoking cessation, weight loss and gastric band hypnotherapy and anxiety management. I also run a weekly relaxation group. I  have an understanding of mindfulness and can teach the techniques. I am a member of the National Hypnotherapy Society and adhere to their code of ethics.

How do  I work?

I work with adults and children. I take a holistic approach to hypnotherapy with an emphasis on the powerful connection between mind and body. Using hypnotherapy we can work together to gain freedom from fear, anxiety, stress, over-eating, low self-esteem, phobias, pain, IBS, smoking and many more issues which may hold you back. Together we can work to allow you to reach your full potential. I am also trained to teach Hypnobirthing. I have been inspired by the power of hypnotherapy to enable positive change. During the first session I will spend a lot of time finding out about you, so that I can really tailor the session to your individual needs. I am happy to work with children over tha age of 5 years.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a talking treatment in which your subconscious mind becomes open to suggestions. The subconscious part of your mind is very powerful. This is the place where memories are stored and habits are formed. I can help you to achieve a deep state of relaxation or trance. In this state you remain aware of your surroundings and fully in control. Should you wish to end the session at any time you can easily do so. The trance state has been likened to day dreaming and is a very pleasant and enjoyable experience. Once you are fully relaxed your subconscious mind becomes open to suggestions. The barrier to change is relaxed and we can work together to allow you to live and enjoy life to the full, free from any burdens which may have held you back.

Further information

"I'd attempted dieting numerous times over the years and really wanted to achieve a healthier lifestyle but just couldn't seem to commit. I kept making excuses. I turned to hypnotherapy with Suzanne and I can honestly say my lifestyle has improved considerably! The techniques Suzanne used totally opened up my mind and removed the barriers I had. I am now a member of a gym and go 2-3 times a week. I have found that I love swimming which I do weekly. Suzanne has a wonderful calming & understanding approach and put me at ease throughout the whole experience."

- Mrs A, 39 years

"Suzanne worked with me to encourage relaxation, stress and weight loss.  She was incredibly understanding and took the time to really get beneath the surface so she was able to deliver a programme tailored specifically to me.  I am now able to manage my stress a lot more easily, and can bring myself back to focusing on the important things in life, getting rid of that internal "panic".  Thank you so much and I can highly recommend her services."

- Mrs S, 35 years

"Suzanne's professional and encouraging approach helped me with my sleeping problems. After a few relaxing sessions I'm sleeping a lot better and each day is more productive now as a result of a better nights sleep. I would highly recommend Suzanne."

- Mrs M, 33years

"Although I was initially a little sceptic about the curative value of hypnosis, after my first session with Suzanne I was convinced that the treatment is a contemporary and effective psychological treatment.  I was particularly impressed with the professional way in which Suzanne delivered the hypnosis, which was tailored to the issues that I wished to resolve.  The self-hypnosis techniques that she taught me are invaluable and I will continue to use them regularly.  I certainly now worry a lot less and am able better to put things into perspective.  My ability to get to sleep quickly has dramatically improved.  Therefore, thank you so much for the excellent course of hypnosis and the expert way it was delivered."

- Mr P, 38 years

"I would just say that Suzie did an amazing job in just a couple of sessions. This enabled me to overcome a lifelong phobia sufficiently to approach eye surgery in a calm and confident way. I could not have believed beforehand that it would be possible for me to undergo that surgery without general anaesthetic but I did so with no experience of stress whatsoever."
