About me

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE CORONAVIRUS OUTBREAK, TELEPHONE OR ALTERNATIVE FACE TO FACE COMMUNICATION IS STILL AVAILABLE. SKYPE, WHICH IS EASY AND FREE TO DOWNLOAD, FACETIME, IF YOU USE APPLE PRODUCTS, OR ZOOM WHICH, AGAIN, IS FREE AND EASY TO DOWNLOAD. PLEASE DO NOT FEEL THAT ALL COUNSELLING HAS STOPPED - IF YOU ARE NOT COMPUTER SAVVY WE CAN USE THE PHONE - I AM STILL HERE BUT JUST IN A DIFFERENT WAY FOR NOW. DO GET IN TOUCH IF YOU WISH TO DISCUSS THIS, NOT ALL ARE A WHIZZ WITH TECHNOLOGY!

Being a fully qualified professional hypnotherapist and counsellor, I offer sessions which are warm, friendly, confidential and private, giving you time to feel listened to without being judged.  We all need help at some point in our lives and may have tried many ways of dealing with an issue or habit, but nothing has worked.

How Do I Know I’m In Safe Hands?

Having been a counsellor for many years, I then trained for my Diploma in Integrative Hypnotherapy at The Christie Hospital in Manchester, learning from highly skilled and professionally recognised in their field tutors. I have also continued professional development, supervision and networks regularly to continually learn.

I am a member of the General Hypnotherapy Register which regulates the quality of hypnotherapy in this country.  Every GHR Practitioner is eligible for registration within the Department of Health supported regulator, the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council(CNHC), and thus contacting a GHR therapist should afford clients the necessary confidence to proceed with a full consultation. Please see the GHR website for further details if wished.

How long does a session last?

The first introductory session will last one hour, this is to find out about you and what you wish to change in your life. The following sessions will be the actual hypnotherapy which we allow 1.5 hours for.  This may be between one and four sessions – that is to be discussed between client and therapist.

How do I get started?

It is important that we have an initial meeting to find out exactly what the problem is, how it is affecting your life and what you wish the outcome to be.  It is good to start to build a relationship, to see how to take it forward, all safe, gentle, confidential.  After the initial meeting, and suitability assessed, then we would progress to the hypnotherapy stage which is for us to talk about and agree.

It can be hard to make that first phone call but we could have a talk so that you can see how it works without obligation.  I can be available most days and evenings.  If you would like to talk with me about any issues you have, then please call me on 07963 093250 to have a confidential chat or do feel free to email me if you prefer.  If I do not answer straight away then please leave a message so that I can get back to you as soon as I can.

I work from a private, confidential and pleasant consulting room with plenty of car parking very close to Stockport Town Centre and there is a good bus service.

Training, qualifications & experience

  • Diploma in Hypnotherapy
  • Diploma in Counselling
  • Certificate in Counselling Skills
  • Certificate in Counselling Concepts
  • BA Degree Chester University
  • Diploma in Supervision

I am part of a professional body called the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) and abide by their codes of practice. I am also a member of the British Association For Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP). I have the relevant insurance in place and am covered to work with children.

I have many years experience of working in the private sector and have recently completed on-going professional development in many different areas, including Mindfulness which is very effective for all types of anxiety and stress, enabling us to deal with those thought loops that go round and round without end. I am also interested in how our bodies are sometimes telling us what is wrong yet we ignore it.

I was a Counsellor at a doctors surgery for many years with many types of issues being brought.  I offer short and long term therapy, it truly does depend on what you bring and how deep it is.  That is for us to gently talk about and agree upon when we meet.

The General Hypnotherapy Register

Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).

Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level.

All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Fees

  • Hypnotherapy has an introductory meeting at £40.00 (1 hour)

  • This is then followed by approximately 2-4 sessions at £50.00 per session(1.5 hours)  Again, this is for us to discuss when we meet.
  • Mindfulness practice is £40.00 for an hour, although this can easily be combined within a counselling session.
  • One to one counselling is £40.00 for an hour.

Home visits can be organised by prior arrangement and will cost a bit more due to the travel/time expenses incurred. I offer a 10% discount to students and can offer home visits to those with mobility issues.  Telephone or email counselling is also an option.

Further information

What is Hypnotherapy?

It’s a completely safe, medically respected and natural way of accessing our deeper selves, those parts that we are not always aware of that can have a big impact on how we are living our lives.  It’s a form of therapy that is used worldwide in a variety of settings including hospitals.

We actually spend time in our everyday lives in a trance like state, children do it very naturally – remember that old saying “they’re away with the fairies?!”.  Well, when we drive on autopilot, are engrossed in a book or film or are in one physical place but our minds have travelled to another – it’s a very human and totally safe and this is what is harnessed in hypnotherapy.

What it’s not!

Stage hypnosis is not hypnotherapy and the two should not be confused or compared.  Stage hypnosis is a show and manipulated for that aim.  Under hypnotherapy you are not asleep, you always have control and can come out of it at any time you like.  You cannot be made to do anything you do not wish to do which is very important for you to know.  You can stand up, walk, leave the room or terminate the session.

A hypnotised person cannot be made to do anything against their usual ethical or moral judgement or religious belief.  Please do discuss this with Sue in further detail should you wish.

Who Benefits?

Anyone who really wishes for change.  If you have a habit that you wish to change, a fear or phobia that you wish to overcome – any issue that is having an impact upon your life that is making you feel unhappy – you may wish to loose weight, stop smoking, get through that all important interview or driving test, get on an aeroplane without worry – we all have problems that stop us from living our life to the full.  You can change that now.

Hypnotherapy has also been proven highly beneficial for addictions, including alchohol, disrupted sleep patterns, lack of confidence and low self-esteem, fear of examinations and public speaking, Additionally, it has proved of value within surgery, where normal anaesthetics have not been practical, in the wider sphere of pain management and in the areas of both sporting and artistic performance enhancement. As an adjunct to other counselling techniques, it can also assist in helping to resolve and be useful within anger management strategies.
