About me

With over twenty years experience of working in psychotherapy, (including as a hypnotherapist since 2012) I provide a special combination of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, Mindfulness and NLP techniques to provide appropriate, engaging and successful therapy treatment programs tailored to suit you and your particular issues and goals. I also specialise in helping teenagers, together with their families.  In February 2024 I moved to Bushy Coombe Gardens where my therapy room is graced by birdsong and views of Chalice Hill.

At my unique 90 minute in-depth initial consultation, you will already receive an in depth appraisal of your issues and process, a detailed explanation of how I will assist you, and a number of valuable and useful tools to assist you directly from day one.  These include printed support notes of the session as well as a free copy of the NewMan Practice 20-page Therapy Support Book and my hypnotherapy soundtrack to download for Sleep Enhancement & Stress Reduction as well as Mindful Practice Breathing & Body-Scanning as part of my therapy.

I am here to help you achieve your desired goals, reduce your levels of anxiety and change any unwanted mental or behavioural habits that may be preventing you from fully enjoying your life and achieving what you want in your life right now!

Helping people reduce their levels of anxiety is a primary element of my work but I also help people with a range of specific issues including insomnia, addiction (including alcohol, cocaine and smoking) as well as weight and diet issues,  panic attacks, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, intrusive thoughts, chronic pain, IBS, phobias (such as flying or dentists), performance in business, and public speaking,. I also specialise in helping teenagers and there families negotiate the common difficulties arising during teenage years.

I do charge for my EXTENDED INITIAL CONSULTATION lasting 90 minutes because it offers so much helpful therapy in itself and is far more than a mere introduction. Clients leave this session feeling already far more positive and with new empowering insights into their issues and clarity about how we are going to resolve them. If you want to discuss my therapy approach before booking you are welcome to email, call or message me to make further enquires.

Why 90 minute sessions? 90 minutes, as opposed to the more normal 50 minute sessions other therapists offer, allows plenty of time for talking therapy, for you to share your experiences, discuss plans and processes as well as to receive a deep and effective hypnosis procedure.

It is important to be aware that the  power of human empathy and intuition, the therapeutic alliance, how you and your therapist connect and engage with each other, is the most powerful factor in the process of emotional and psychological healing.

When appropriate I offer my clients free additional bespoke hypnotherapy soundtracks for which other therapists may charge hundreds of pounds!

So if you are ready to make this first step, then please don't hesitate to call me and discuss appointment opportunities or ask whatever other questions you might have.

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, modern and well-researched techniques. It can help people to rapidly achieve significant, positive changes in their lives. It focuses on the client’s strengths and resources, enabling them to move forward to a more positive future where they are more in control of their thoughts, feelings and actions. Beneficial results are often achieved faster than with other therapies because we do not focus on the problems, we focus on the goals that the client wants to achieve.

I presently practice from my own very comfortable dedicated Hypnotherapy Consulting room overlooking Chalice Hill in Glastonbury just a minute from the high street. There is free on-street parking

As the parent of a child who suddenly started having epileptic seizures as a teenager, I have researched deeply, and have a special interest in, teenage brain development and mental health. This is an area where much important neurological and psychological research is being done at this time. I also give talks to other therapists about this subject. The short engaging  courses to teenagers and their parents I provide are healing, supportive and help them make the most of these important years. Time and again I have been informed how incredibly helpful this course has been to parents and teenagers alike and have many referrals as a result.

Reducing stress in the teenage years has life-changing, long-term benefits for the teenager and their family.

Courses for teenagers and their parents

I have developed this original and informative 2 session course, designed to engage teenagers (12-24) and parents alike. I explain the latest neuro-scientific understanding of the remarkable development in teenagers’ brains and how natural evolutionary developments lie behind the difficulties and challenges of being a teenager (and living with one). A proper understanding of these allows the parents and teenagers to circumnavigate the pitfalls and make the most of the great opportunities of this period in our lives.

Methods and techniques for reducing stress and anxiety appropriate for teenagers are also explained. The information in this course can be quite a revelation and opens up new understandings and opportunities for resolving conflicts and moving forward creatively. A Hypnotherapy soundtrack is also included. As we and they come to understand what is really happening in their "teenager" brains we can help teens to feel at ease with themselves and their experiences and to direct their energies in creative and rewarding ways.

It is an enlightening course designed to help parents understand what their teenagers are experiencing, how to help them and also feel less stressed themselves! When parents understand what is going on in their teenager's brain they can more confidently handle the inevitable teen crisis which previously caused them stress and grief. In addition, the hypnotherapy and relaxation tips help make this a really empowering opportunity to turn things around.

It is not unusual for teenagers to suffer from sleep problems, self-esteem and confidence issues, anxiety and depression at some time. These symptoms can seriously affect their education and while they may be temporary they can go on to form the foundation for long-term difficulties. Addressing them with the right therapy intervention can enhance their happiness and academic achievements as well as their productivity throughout their adult lives.

For more information about how this could work for you and your teenager please don't hesitate to contact me.
