About me

SAFE PRACTICE AND SOCIAL DISTANCING:  Updated 11 May 2020              I am now able to offer person to person therapy in my consulting room under the following "Safe Practice" conditions.

1. The NewMan Practice Consulting Room has been redesigned to ensure 2 Metre+ social distancing is maintained throughout consultations. (See the floor-plan image below in the photo section.)

2. Consultations will be spaced a full half-hour apart to allow for airing, and disinfection of the consulting room as well as entrance and toilet facilities.

3. Clients will be expected to postpone appointments (without cancellation charge) if they or their household are experiencing any symptoms that might be  Covid -19 related. (Appointments via Zoom will then be available.)

I am offering a full and effective program of Solution Focused Hypnotherapy via  Zoom or on the telephone. As always, your initial consultation with me will be FREE.

During these challenging times, I am available days, evenings and weekends for my clients.  Periods of isolation can prove particularly challenging for anyone suffering from anxiety, depression, and other stress-related issues. It is important to get the support we need and not wait under such circumstances.

With over twenty years experience of working in therapy, (including 6 years as a hypnotherapist) I combine Solution Focused Hypnotherapy, Counselling, Mindfulness and NLP techniques to provide an appropriate, engaging and successful treatment program tailored to suit you and your issues and goals.

Your initial one-hour consultation with me is FREE. (Not included in this free consultation offer: Special programs including Smoking Cessation, Teen Support and Fast to Sleep programs

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy uses practical, modern and well-researched techniques. It can help people to rapidly achieve significant, positive changes in their lives. It focuses on the client’s strengths and resources, enabling them to move forward to a more positive future where they are more in control of their thoughts, feelings and actions.  Beneficial results are often achieved faster than with other therapies because we do not focus on the problems, we focus on the goals that the client wants to achieve.

I presently practice from my own very comfortable dedicated Hypnotherapy Consulting room and also at Apple Tree Therapies in Glastonbury.

How I can help you

I am here to help you with reducing your levels of anxiety and achieving your desired goals or to change any unwanted mental or behavioural habits that may be preventing you from achieving what you want in life right now!

Helping people reduce their levels of anxiety is a key element of my work but I also can help you with a range of specific issues including insomnia, poor or interrupted sleep, performance in business, Public Speaking, panic attacks, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, intrusive thoughts, chronic pain, IBS, phobias (such as flying or dentists), addiction (including alcohol and smoking) and weight issues.

The power of human empathy and intuition, the therapeutic alliance, how you and your therapist connect and engage with each other, is the most powerful factor in the process of emotional and psychological healing.

My initial consultation lasts at least an hour and typically clients leave feeling already far more positive and with a new insight into their issues.

It will give you the opportunity to find out if you are happy working with me and to express what you hope to achieve from therapy.
I will explain the mechanisms behind any negative experiences you wish to address and the way we are going to help you successfully achieve your chosen goals.
At the end of this highly informative and empowering session, you will take with you a free stress-reducing and sleep-enhancing 50-minute hypnotherapy CD or download and a clear understanding of how your therapy will be structured and is going to work for you. There is no actual hypnosis during the initial consultation unless it is to quit smoking.
So if you are ready to make this first step, then please don't hesitate to call me and discuss appointment opportunities or ask whatever other questions you might have.

As the parent of a child who suddenly started having epileptic seizures as a teenager I have researched, and have a special interest in, teenage brain development and mental health. This is an area where much important neurological and psychological research is being done at this time. I give talks to other therapists about this area and also offer courses to teenagers and their parents to help them make the most of these important years.

Reducing stress in the teenage years can have life-changing, long-term benefits (for the teenager and their family).

Courses for teenagers and their parents

I have developed this original and informative 2 session course, designed to engage teenagers (12-24) and parents alike. I explain the latest neuro-scientific understanding of teenagers’ developing brains and how natural evolutionary developments lie behind the difficulties and challenges of being a teenager (and living with one).

Methods and techniques for reducing stress and anxiety appropriate for teenagers are also explained. The information in this course can be quite a revelation and opens up new understandings and opportunities for resolving conflicts and moving forward creatively. A Hypnotherapy CD is also included. As we and they come to understand what is really happening in their "teenager" brains we can help teens to feel at ease with themselves and their experiences and to direct their energies in creative and rewarding ways.

It is an enlightening course designed to help parents understand what their teenagers are experiencing, how to help them and also feel less stressed themselves! When parents understand what is going on in their teenager's brain they can more confidently handle the inevitable teen crisis which previously caused them stress and grief. In addition, the hypnotherapy and relaxation tips help make this a really empowering opportunity to turn things around.

It is not unusual for teenagers to suffer from sleep problems, self-esteem and confidence issues, anxiety and depression at some time. These symptoms can seriously affect their education and while they may be temporary they can go on to form the foundation for long-term difficulties. Addressing them with the right therapy intervention can enhance their happiness and academic achievements as well as their productivity throughout their adult lives.

For more information about how this could work for you and your teenager please don't hesitate to contact me.

Fast to sleep

Sleep is essential for good mental health. I offer a special 2 consultation course focused on helping you personally towards good quality sleep.

It includes a thorough review of your sleeping problem and associated symptoms, a presentation about sleep, stress and the brain, a personalised sleep support program, a support guide, and workbook as well as a Hypnotherapy CD / Download. There will also be a Hypnotherapy session as part of the second consultation. An optional follow-up session after 6 weeks is available for £30.

In preparation for the anticipated easing of lockdown regulations, The Newman Practice now has a new consulting room layout carefully designed to ensure that clients can keep a safe 2 Metre plus distance at all times.

You can see the room layout below.

When you book an “in-person” appointment you will be sent clear instructions regarding entering and leaving the building and accessing toilet facilities
