Hypnotherapy Weight Management is not a diet – you will be able to eat what you want, when you want. However, Hypnotherapy re-codes the subconscious mind to change the bad eating habits you’ve got so that you only want the foods that are good for you. Just by listening to your subconscious mind and making some subtle adjustments to your eating habits you will, not only lose weight, but it will stay off permanently. Increasing the appeal of healthy foods.
Perhaps you are reading this page because you have dieted most of your life, losing weight only to gain it back again, well don't worry, most of my weight loss clients have experienced this yo-yo cycle during much of their lives and are now free from repetition.
When clients come to see me for weight reduction they are encouraged to visualize in their minds eye how they will look when they reach their ideal weight and shape. This creates an image of you that your subconscious mind will start to work towards immediately as it cannot distinguish whether the image is real or something that is yet to happen.
Although everyone of us is an individual and the number of sessions can vary, my treatment plan of 5-6 sessions ( including the Initial Assessment) WORKS and will generally be suitable for most people. Using a combination of teaching (well researched information at each session in a pack) hypnosis and affirmations you will be on your way to a brand new figure!

The problem with diets
The trouble with diets is that they require great determination and will power to succeed, not to mention all the watching everything you eat and calorie counting you have to do. You have to sacrifice much of what you desire to eat which only makes you want it more and often leads you to failure as the temptation to eat these foods becomes too strong!
Most clients' weight problems start from unconscious desires to eat:
ie when they are nervous,bored, stressed, sad, lonely, frustrated, anxious and afraid, in fact, any reason at all except when they are actually hungry! The denial of certain foods which are associated with pleasure just increases these types of feelings and it becomes a vicious circle!
How hypnotherapy can help?
Hypnotherapy and NLP techinques will show you other ways to relieve these triggers without having to resort to overeating. Hypnotherapy helps you to gain control over your cravings and helps you gain a sense of balance with regard to your food habits whereby you will only want to eat when you are naturally hungry. It will also help you to let go of all the bad habits and false beliefs that stopped you losing weight before. For instance, eating too quickly and eating too much are bad habits and eating to feel happier is based on a false belief. Using Hypnotherapy and NLP will help you to permanently change your relationship with food, enabling you to lose weight, and stay in control without the frustration of endless dieting.
We all have two parts to our brain, the conscious mind learns new things and then passes this information onto the subconscious mind. When the subconscious mind has accepted a pattern of behaviour or a pattern of thinking it becomes an automatic action without any direction or prompting from the conscious mind. .
There was a time when our sub conscious mind knew what was good for us but over the years we sometimes get into bad habits – eating a chocolate bar or piece of cake when you don’t really want or need it. Eventually your sub conscious mind will accept all these things as learned habits and will allow you to continue to do them. The way hypnosis works is to change these patterns – it means that we can change the way our sub conscious mind works by getting rid of the bad habits and replacing them with good habits.
Good reasons for losing weight
It has been well researched that people who have lost a substantial amount of weight are said to feel more confident and more energetic. It is also reported that they feel they receive more attention from people, experience a greater improvement to their general health and enjoy better moods.
However, in addition to these great incentives, being overweight puts you more at risk of developing health problems such as:

Stress Management and anxiety
This is another area that I specialise in and have had a great deal of success helping clients deal with panic attacks and phobias.
How our bodies respond to Stress: When we experience stress our bodies are being subconsciously triggered to respond. The body causes adrenaline to be released so that our systems are in a state of high alert. This nervous system’s response is crude and primitive and developed very early on in our human evolution to protect us from wild animals and other obvious dangers.
Once it is triggered our full ‘fight or flight’response occurs, assuming that if the tension level is so high, the situation must be dangerous. Of course our nervous system can trick us by remembering a situation in which the emergency reaction occured: it then ‘warns’ us by producing early anxiety symptoms every time we approach that same or similar situation.
Physical sensations you may experience:
- sweating - pounding heartbeat - flushing - upset stomach - diarrhoea - frequent urination - cold clammy hands - dry mouth - lump in the throat - shortness of breath - high pulse rate - high breathing rate - muscle tension and aches, especially in the neck and shoulders - eyelid and other twitches - trembling - tiring easily - inability to relax - easily startled - fidgety - frequent sighing - generally apprehensive - worrying about future disasters, bad health etc, - impatient and irritable - angry outbursts - insomnia
How Hypnotherapy can help.
In Hypnotherapy you will learn how you can call on a relaxed, peaceful state of mind whenever you need it as well as techniques for remaining calm and centred whatever difficulties and pressures life places in your path.
You will discover how to alter negative or distorted thoughts that may be operating subconsciously, which will help remove the triggers for your anxiety/stress, and replace them with powerful, positive and confident thoughts enabling you to take on new challenges easily.
In trance you can replay stressful situations visually whilst viewing them from an emotionally detached perspective enabling you to gain new insights which help to resolve long standing problems. You can then mentally rehearse strategies which will enable you to deal with these situations in a more effective manner.

At present, consultations with me are available on Wednesday to Friday and some evenings.
The number of sessions will depend on how you feel, the challenge you are trying to resolve, and the progress we make together.
If you decide to contact me we can talk for around 10 minutes or so on the phone in order to get a sense of each other and decide whether to make our first appointment.
The first session, known as an initial assessment, lasts about an hour to an hour and a half, and is where you can tell me in detail about the challenges and issues you would like to resolve. Subsequent sessions are 1 hour long.

What does trance feel like and will I be able to experience it?
A hypnotic trance is a feeling of deep relaxation, it is experienced in a unique way for everyone. What you tend to experience will be very similar to the sensations you experience when, for example, staring into an open fire and watching the flames flickering, another example is the soothing effect of listening to the waves roll in or getting lost in a film. If you have ever experienced drifting off slightly, this will give you a good idea of what the experience is like. It's a slightly altered state of mind where you will feel able to put your concerns of the day to one side and yet still remain aware of what I am saying.
Will I lose control of myself?
No, Hypnotherapy is NOT stage hypnotism.
You can’t be hypnotised if you don’t want to be hypnotised.
You can’t be made to do things that you don’t want to do.
You can’t get “stuck” in a hypnotic trance.
It is NOT mind control by one person over another.
It is your mind and your journey. The therapist is more like a guide.
Will I have to do anything?
No, just lie back and relax. Of course like all therapies, Hypnotherapy works best when both of us are engaged in resolving the difficulties you face, working together as a partnership. It is not a magic cure, I will use my skills to facilitate the necessary changes, whilst you as the client remain open, willing and motivated to take the journey of personal growth.
Can you come to me?
Yes, if travelling to me is a problem. I will need to discuss this with you and view the space first to make sure it is suitable. Abbey Hypnotherapy NLP and Reiki is based in Sheffield S8, South Yorkshire
Can I have someone with me?
If you are under 17 you must have someone with you such as a parent, guardian or chaperone.
If you are an adult I would prefer you didn’t. The reason is that, depending on who the other person is, it might make it difficult to speak openly. Of course there may be exceptions
What should I wear?
Anything that you feel comfortable in.
Do I need to do anything before I come to see you at Abbey Hypnotherapy?
No, although please bear in mind that it’s often best not to drink alcohol, tea or coffee as these are stimulants.
I work from home in South Sheffield, S8. The house is not modified for wheelchair access but there are no steps other than gaining entry through the door.

When you contact me,we will have a 10-15 mins informal chat over the phone regarding the nature of your problem so that you can get a sense of what to expect and I can be sure if it's an area I am able to deal with.
If the problem is a more deep rooted issue and many sessions are required, I offer a discount after the first 6 sessions to be agreed with the client.
My name is Rebecca Dunn and I run Abbey Hypnotherapy NLP and Reiki in Sheffield S8, South Yorkshire. I am a fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Reiki practitioner. NLP stands for Neuro-linguistic-programming and teaches methods for reprogramming the mind.
I came to hypnotherapy first as a client suffering from anxiety and chronic pain in the form of Interstitial cystitis (a life changing and debilitating disease), which caused me to feel very depressed at times. I used hypnotherapy to help me get through a couple of daunting events but also became interested in how it worked as a process of personal development. I began to research hypnotherapy and other psychotherapies in order to gain a basic awareness of how the mind works and gradually became more and more interested in hypnotherapy as a way of tackling my health issues at a much deeper level.
Hypnotherapy and NLP have helped me to surpass my limiting beliefs, build my confidence and self -esteem which in turn motivated me to make huge changes in my life. I feel they have helped me a great deal, together with Reiki, for which I am attuned, to completely transform the way I see the world. I finally overcame my illness through eating a very strict raw food diet and used hypnotherapy to give me the disipline required to stick to the regime. I am particularly interested in treating people who have weight, anxiety or stress management problems. Having a keen interest in Naturopathic medicine and a basic knowledge of herbal remedies, I feel I have a wealth of information to impart to people who are struggling with these issues.
