Penny Iveson BA(Hons), Registered Nurse (Mental Health), Dip I Hyp NLP
I specialise in treating anxiety/depression, lack of self confidence, and addictions. Weight gain and eating disorders are anxiety-based. I use hypnosis, integrated with other therapeutic techniques, to make weight loss and healthy eating a smooth experience. I treat all anxiety conditions such as social anxiety, OCD, IBS and allergies. Phobias such as fear of flying and fear of needles etc can be banished entirely in one relaxing session. If you feel you lack self confidence and self esteem, so frequent in today’s image-obsessed society, it’s just a feeling, and hypnosis can turn it right round!
I give a free phone consultation to be sure I can help you. You tell me what you want to achieve and we go for it! You will always go away with an MP3 so you can listen to the hypnosis at home
Personal hypnosis, either face to face or online, is far more powerful than a one-size-fits-all app. This is because it is a unique two-way communication that develops minute by minute. When you experience this connection, your self confidence and self esteem begin to increase instantly.
I believe hypnotherapy is the most effective and promising therapy developed in recent years for modern problems. All addictions, like overeating and gambling, are rooted in anxiety. I have spent many years treating most anxiety conditions such as phobias, OCD, agoraphobia, health anxiety and performance anxiety. I keep abreast of the latest psychological and scientific research on successful treatments in these fields.
Depression is a field that has always engaged me since my early days in nursing. In recent years there have been important advances in scientific understanding of depression as an emotion, and my hypnotherapy treatment reflects this.
I am a fully qualified mental health nurse as well as a hypnotherapist, and worked in the National Health Service for many years. My background in nursing has prepared me for putting you at your ease in and making you feel at home. You will be welcomed into a comfortable environment where confidentiality and privacy are essential.
FEAR OF FLYING
My brother referred me to Penny because she had cured him of fear of needles and he completely recovered. When I went I was worried about hypnosis but felt I had to do this. Penny was exceptionally kind and I soon felt I trusted her especially as she was a registered nurse. The treatment was interesting and not at all stressful. I am a teacher and this was all new to me! I felt better straight away and the flights were great! My two sisters are now booked up with Penny!
I would like to thank you so much Penny because I was so worried all the time and you showed me how to cope. I didn't believe I could feel so calm and keep calm all day long. I sleep much better too. My husband and daughters have really noticed how much more relaxed I am and we go out as a family and enjoy life a lot more now. All the bad thoughts are under control because you showed me that's all they are, thoughts, and I can ignore them or reframe them or change them. It's getting easier the more I do it. Thank you again and I will
Due to feeling I was drowning once in the sea when I was about ten years old, I became afraid of any waves. I couldn't go in the sea at all, even when it was calm in case a wave came and I couldn't watch anything on the TV or films with waves in it such as sealife and nature programmes. This included news clips showing high seas in local areas. The family just got used to it. I am a martial arts teacher and felt pretty stupid hiding behind cushions. Penny did the Rewind Technique which frankly was all a blur. Afterwards I went straight to her laptop and watched some clips of disaster movies involving waves. For the first time in 30 years I could watch. I can swim in the sea again even when there are waves. I still remember that first panic when I was 10 but now its just an ordinary bad memory, not a fear, and I go in the water and don't think of it at all.
I used to spend all day crying. I tried everything. I think it was my bad childhood and Penny let me talk about that. I told her things I have never told anyone else. Sometimes she asked me to list my thoughts on a form. That was CBT and I was surprised I liked doing that. Then we’d discuss the forms and I found out I was always doing the same things, looking on the dark side or blaming myself. I realised a lot of my depression was guilt even when I had done nothing to be blamed for. Penny showed me how easy it was to get out of these habits. We played “The blaming game” which did make me laugh. I enjoyed my sessions including the hypnosis because I have never felt so relaxed for years. I still fight depression but it is much much better and I hardly ever cry now, just get on with things till I feel my mood lifting.
