Hi, I’m Paul.
It’s curious how people can go through the same challenge or experiences and come out of it feeling really differently.
My passion is helping people with their mental health and ensuring that they are heard and understood and that their problems are real and important.
Unfortunately, many who are suffering with their mental health will first go to their GP and are then often left without the full support they need. This might be because at the end of six sessions of CBT, they’re left to manage by themselves or offered some medication when what they really want is:
- To be listened to deeply
- To be shown some empathy
- For someone to connect to their emotions and how they’re really feeling
- To be treated like an individual!
- To feel that they are safe
My journey into mental health and hypnotherapy started in 2017 when I joined the Samaritans as a listening volunteer, a role which I still do to this very day.
It was in doing this that I had my eyes opened to just how many people suffer with their mental health on a daily basis, and just how many of them feel they have been let down by their GP and their local mental health care team.
I have since gained qualifications in CBT, EFT, Hypnotherapy and other holistic health practices which help me to combine and provide an effective treatment for my clients.
No two people are the same... So why should the treatment be the same for everyone? It stands to reason why so many feel they have been let down in the past by their healthcare providers.
I offer a caring and confidential service, offering help and emotional support when you need it. Hypnotherapy can be a very effective treatment that allows YOU to take control and relieve the uncomfortable feelings that are associated with anxious states and panic attacks.
Many people can start to experience benefits from just one session, others around three sessions, but this can take more as everyone is different.
Building a connection together is really important. Your worldview may contain some quirks and that is totally fine. I will always respect where you are coming from, listen to you and find the best way to move you forward in a nonjudgmental and safe environment where you can be open and honest about everything.
Instead of feeling ashamed about our mental health, it’s useful to think of getting help as updating our software, like you would on your phone.
Hypnotherapy uses guided relaxation, intense concentration, and focused attention to achieve a heightened state of awareness known as a trance, this allows the therapist to access the subconscious (which is the state that controls all your thoughts, feelings, and actions). It is through the subconscious that the therapist is then able to offer positive suggestions that help to change your mindset, such as quit smoking, promote weight loss, build confidence, break habits, overcome anxiety, stress, depression, anger, and grief, and many, many more.
There are many misconceptions around hypnosis and hypnotherapy, which are certainly not helped by stage hypnotists. You cannot become stuck in hypnosis and you will remain in full control whilst in a hypnotic state, you won’t be able to do anything against your moral code and you won’t give up any of your secrets.
Outside your session
Just as important, is the help outside of your session. Your challenges or things you’re working on don’t end just because we’ve ended our session. If you need to email or phone me in between, I’ll do my best to work with you to make sure the rest of your week goes well too.
You will also get the recordings from me and self-help tools to use outside our sessions. Self-help tools are great for when you want to reduce anxiety, fall asleep or find some relaxation.
