I originally trained as a teacher and spent nigh on thirty years working as a hands-on advisory teacher with children and young adults with a variety of emotional, social and behavioural difficulties - including several years teaching in secure placements.
I extended my therapy skills and training by training as a hypnotherapist with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy on their course at Oxford University and now, having retired from full-time teaching, I concentrate my working life on my hypnotherapy practice.
I am now, and always have been entirely solution focused in my work with clients and I believe that 'doing with' rather than 'doing to' is much the most affective way to provide therapy.
I offer support in a whole range of areas of work and would urge you to look at my own web-site in order to fully understand me and how I can help YOU: www.paulavard-hypnotherapy.co.uk
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold the BRIEF practice certificate in solution focus practice - the first one ever issued and following on from this I was, for a number of years, Honorary Secretary of the United Kingdom Association of Solution Focus Practice; a trustee and then Chairperson of the largest solution focus (brief therapy) practice in the UK - 'CHANGE - Birmingham Brief Therapy Practice'.
I am a Registered Hypno-therapist with C.N.H.C (Complementary and Natural Health Council), A member of the National Council of Hypnosis, Psychotherapy and Mindfulness; an Associate Member of the BPS and having trained with Dr Dan Nightingale and Katherine Nightingale, I am a UK based Member of Dementia Therapy Specialists - who do what it says on the tin and specialise in working with people with dementia in all its forms and with family and other carers.
I have recently completed training with Sharon Mustard of easibirthing (r) and am now a Certified Hypno Birthing Practitioner (CHBP) registered as such with easibirthing (r) and the National College of Hypnosis, Psychotherapy and Mindfulness.
I am an Ericksonian in my approach to hypnotherapy and believe that he and Bill O'Hanlon, Rossi and others are to be admired for their work on collaborative, non-directive person-centred therapy.
Other than my B.Ed (Hons) I also hold an MA.Ed in Inclusive Educational Practice as well as a number of other trainings in Special Educational Needs.
I use solution focus brief therapy approaches in hypno-therapy, psychotherapy, coaching, organisation and team working, which the consultancy offers as training to interested individuals and companies.

My fees, generally, are £60 per hour. However, PLEASE NOTE, I also operate a sliding scale of fees - as I do not believe that limited income should equal limited access to help - of any kind, and particularly not to mental health help.
I am fully peripatetic - I will come to you - as lots of people prefer the comfort of their own homes, and not operating my own office suite helps keep my costs down; savings which I can pass on to you, the client.
Details / addresses will be discussed on initial contact. I travel across the West and parts of the East Midlands and am generally based in the Tamworth / Birmingham areas.
I will work over the phone and SKYPE - and have done and both approaches work.
Appointment times are made to suit YOU.
