'Truly superb ...' D
'Thank you for giving me back a life worth living' K
I am a solution - focused hypnotherapist practicing in Dorking. I work with anyone who simply wants to change something in their lives. Maybe they want to leave behind a behaviour which they no longer need, such as smoking, a phobia or a compulsive habit, or achieve a new goal in life, such as confidence at work or in a particular skill (a sport or musical performance, for example). Perhaps they just want a greater sense of becoming more fully themselves.
Hypnotherapy can help with all of these and many more; in short, hypnotherapy can help with any condition in which stress or an attitude of mind plays a part.
I regularly help clients with stress, anxiety and depression, whilst the more common conditions include fear of driving, exam confidence, insomnia, incontinence, chronic fatigue syndrome, stopping smoking, pain management, nervous tics, addictions, bereavement and over-eating and drinking. I am active as a classical musician and have a particular interest in working with musicians and, indeed, any performing artist to overcome performance nerves and give of their best. I also have a particular interest in working with acne and similar skin disorders.
As for solution - focused therapy, this concentrates on the future rather than dwelling on the past; the future that you want, the future that you define. It is focused, practical and operates quickly, compared to traditional counselling or psychotherapy. Many of my clients notice significant changes after just 3 or 4 sessions and it is rare for any of my clients to need more than 8 - 10 sessions, although many return occasionally thereafter simply for the blissful relaxation of the experience.
Training, qualifications & experience
Before training as a hypnotherapist I took a degree in English Literature at Oxford and then qualified as a solicitor, practicing in that profession for nearly 30 years.
I hold the Diploma in Solution - Focused Hypnotherapy from the Clifton Practice and the HPD (Practitioner's Diploma) of the National Council of Hypnotherapy.
I hold a certificate in counselling skills from the Westminster Pastoral Foundation and am registered with the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.
Although I do not practice psychodynamically, I have a particular interest in Jungian analysis from my own experience which often informs my therapeutic practice.

I offer a first consultation which is free of charge. Generally this does not include actual hypnosis, but I explain something of the science of how behavioural patterns are formed, which is the theoretical structure that underpins my practice, and look at what you want to achieve. You may notice, in fact, that from our first meeting, I will never ask 'what is the problem ?', I will simply ask 'what do you want to achieve ?'. This is for the simple reason that the mind will consciously seek out whatever you want it to focus on. Focusing on a problem will simply draw you further towards it. Focusing on the solution will lead you upwards and forwards instead. Together we will decide if we are comfortable with one another and I will give you a relaxation CD to take away to prepare you for our future sessions.
After this I charge £60 for a session, which normally lasts for between 50 and 60 minutes, although concessions may be available in particular circumstances.
My smoking withdrawal programme comprises three sessions of around 50 minutes each for a total cost of £160.
My normal consultation hours are between 9.00am and 5.00pm from Tuesday to Thursday, although other times are occasionally available by prior appointment.
