About me

I use an evidence-based mixture of hypnotherapy, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) techniques, and mindfulness to help you change the way you think, feel and behave.

I specialise in stress and anxiety (including phobias and insomnia), and also love helping people to break habits and develop healthier lifestyles, but if there's anything else that's troubling you please do feel free to get in touch to see if I can help.

Not all the hypnotherapists are the same - some focus on working on the past, and others claim to be able to solve all your problems in a single session.

My approach is evidence-based, collaborative (working with you rather than doing hypnosis "to" you) and focussed on the here and now. What do I mean by that?

I work with you to help you understand what is maintaining your stress, anxiety or worry, and develop a plan with you to help you break that cycle.  That means therapy is practical and effective - we focus on the here and now, rather than working through issues from the past. I will discuss your goals with you so that we can come up with a plan together to get the best results in the fastest time. My aim is to teach you tools and techniques to manage stress and anxiety, so that you can help yourself and become your own therapist.

I have an "evidence-based" philosophy.  That means I believe you have the right to treatment that is based on sound scientific evidence, and keep up to date with the latest research into hypnotherapy, CBT and mindfulness.

The most important element in hypnotherapy is that you feel comfortable working with your therapist.  For that reason, I always recommend that we have a chat over the phone before you make any decision, so that you can get a feel for whether you'd be comfortable working with me, and I can check that my approach will be suitable to help you achieve your goals.  Please feel free to contact me here.

Training, qualifications & experience

Mimi Fakhri MSc Dip. CBH GQHP

I’m a fully qualified cognitive behavioural hypnotherapist working in Kingston and New Malden, with a background in psychology. I’m a specialist in relaxation, resilience and stress management.

I have a Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy from the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy. I have a BSc in Psychology, an MSc in Behavioural Decision Sciences (the psychology of behaviour and decision making) and am currently working on a PhD exploring the role of emotions in decision making.

I also teach at the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy.

I’m registered with

  • the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR)
  • the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC);
  • and Register for Evidence-based Hypnotherapy & Psychotherapy (REBHP)

and am bound to their stringent Codes of Ethics.

My Mission

I am passionate about prioritising our mental and physical well-being and providing people with the tools and skills to help them help themselves. My aim is that you become your own therapist, not reliant on me.

My story

I worked for over 15 years in blue-chip corporate business, so I understand first hand the pressures of a fast-paced, pressure-filled environment and the difficulties of juggling this with family life. As someone who has suffered with stress in the past, I know just how helpful hypnotherapy, CBT and mindfulness can be.

Member organisations

CNHC

Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council

The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.

In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.

A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

GHR

The General Hypnotherapy Register

Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).

Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level.

All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.

Accredited register membership

Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council

Accredited Register Scheme

The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).

This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Accessibility

Wheelchair user access

Wheelchair-accessible premises should have step-free access for wheelchair users and individuals who are unable to climb stairs. If a hypnotherapist's premises aren't step-free, they may offer alternative services such as telephone/web-based appointments, home visits, or meeting clients in different location, so you can choose the option that suits you best.

You can contact the hypnotherapist to discuss the options available.

Under the Equality Act 2010 service providers have a duty to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that individuals with disabilities can access their service. You can read more about reasonable adjustments to help you to access services on the CAB website.
