About me

Come and be really listened to by a supportive therapist with over 25 years experience.  I blend evidence-based hypnosis with psychotherapy for the best approach for many issues.

I am one of a small percentage of hypnotherapists trained to the level of UKCP (United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy) accreditation.

Whether you seek help with a specific short term problem, or a deeper set of issues, feel free to contact me to hear how I may be able to help.

BSc (Hons) Social Psychology (University of London) 1983

Accredited by UKCP (2002)

Advanced Diploma Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy (National College) (2009)

Experience:

Currently Head of Counselling for Chrysalis Not For Profit Limited, the largest provider of hypnotherapy and psychotherapeutic counselling courses (Levels 3 - 5) in the UK.

As well as 30 years experience as a private therapist, I have trained a large number of hypnotherapists and psychotherapists as a Senior Tutor and case study marker for Chrysalis. I run a regular supervision group for practising hypnotherapists in central London and have supervised other therapists for the past 7 years.  I have run confidence building and assertiveness training groups, and I am the author of two published self-help books, 'Get past driving test nerves' and 'Get past exam nerves'.

I have specialist training through Holistic Resources to provide hypnosis and CBT to patients undergoing cancer treatment, and I have worked for 18 months at the Royal Sussex Hospital helping patients to alleviate symptoms of treatment.

Other training includes Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Hypnosis for Pain Control.

Most recently, I have researched Hypnosis for a Masters Degree in Psychological Research, supervised by Professor Emeritus Irving Kirsch and Professor Giuliana Mazzoni at the University of Hull. I continue to be involved in research projects involving hypnosis.

My passion remains working with clients. I see clients at my clinics in York and London, working both short term and long term for hypnotherapy and psychotherapy.

Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Information about health conditions (*)

Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Specialist training to provide support for patients undergoing cancer treatment (surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy), to help alleviate symptoms such as nausea, sickness, collapsed veins, pain and discomfort, and to provide evidence based hypnosis to support immune function.

Further information

I recognise, as academic research consistently shows, that hypnosis is a psychotherapeutic tool, not a therapy in itself.

I blend hypnosis with Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, psychodynamic therapy and counselling skills. By using this approach, I tailor sessions to what you, the individual client, needs.
