Hello, my name is Karen and I am an experienced hypnotherapist working in your area. I can help you to make the changes in life you desire, giving you back a sense of control. The therapy is focused on working you towards your goal in a brief period of time and making sure those changes last.
I offer a free consultation to explain why you may suffer the way you do, what we can do about it, the process and to provide you with a self hypnosis recording you can start immediately. I understand the stress we all deal with on a day to day basis and I strive to make the process as friendly and relaxed as possible.
I specialise in managing stress, anxiety, depression and sleep problems, but have experience with many other difficulties. I ensure that the therapy I offer is continuously developed to ensure I offer a professional and effective therapy. I currently work part-time at the University of Exeter as a Wellbeing Consultant supporting students experiencing difficulties managing their mental health. At the end of last year I completed the hypnobirthing course and have had some great feedback from my first few clients.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Modern hypnotherapy combines clinically proven techniques and a scientific understanding of how the brain works with the state of trance to help people make significant positive changes within a short period of time.
Resolving unwelcome habits and thought patterns at a subconscious level means that hypnosis literally helps the parts that other approaches can't reach!
How will I feel whilst hypnotised?
Being hypnotised is surprisingly normal, in fact, you go into hypnotic trances many times a day, whilst driving, watching tv, listening to music etc. It is just a pleasant state of relaxation where you may feel nothing at all except relaxed. You will be totally in control at all times.
Can you make me do anything I don't want to?
No. Many people have seen stage hypnotists who are very adept at spotting people who are 'up for making a fool of themselves'. The reallity is you always have control over what you accept and what you do.
What if I can't 'Go Under'?
There is no right or wrong way to being in trance. It is just a very pleasant state of relaxation which anyone can experience and choose whether or not to accept the suggestions to their subconscious.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with
I have recently started hypnotherapy for childbirth.
- Initial Consultation - Free. This is a 45 minute session where you can tell me what you would like help with and I can explain how hypnotherapy works. You can then decide whether this is the approach for you. A free track is provided following this session, regardless of whether you undertake therapy.
- Subsequent Sessions - £50 pounds per session. Payable at the end of each session.
- How many sessions - No two people are the same! However, the phobia treatments are normally 3 sessions. For more complex conditions, such as anxiety, sleep problems or confidence building, I would generally advise that you should allow for 6 sessions.
- Phobia Treatment - 3 sessions at 50 pounds per session.
- Hypnobirthing - 6 sessions involving breathing techniques, relaxation, pain management and visualisation techniques.
I saw Karen for hypnotherapy to help with managing my anger. I was always worrying about things and if something went slightly wrong I would blow it out of proportion and panic. I was unsure what to expect from the sessions, the talking part of the session helped me to see where I was having problems. The trance is very relaxing and therefore you come out of a session feeling very calm. I found Karen professional, caring and although it was not easy, she made the sessions enjoyable. NT
I was studying for my masters and got to a stage in my dissertation where I felt completely overwhelmed. I knew that I had all the information to complete it, but when I looked at it I just couldn’t see ‘the woods for the trees’. That is when a friend pointed me towards hypnotherapy. From the first session I started to feel calmer, my sleep improved and my confidence increased to a degree that after four sessions I felt ‘on my way’. I still had a mountain to climb to get it finished, but at no point from the end of the therapy till I finished did I ever doubt that I would complete it. I was amazed by my understanding of how my mind worked and why I was feeling the way I did. Karen allowed me to focus on the positive, realise that I had the confidence I needed and removed any doubt I had. I now have my masters and was amazed to have got 70% for my dissertation. I will be returning to Karen this summer to have treatment for my phobia of flying. I am looking forward to it. MG
Karen has helped me think in a way that is very helpful to me – to build on the positive to look ahead and keep things in perspective. I feel she has given me the resources to make life easier. Sessions with Karen are relaxed, enjoyable and safe. They feel empowering and motivating. She provided me with a CD that I have found really helpful and it assists with the process. Its not a Paul McKenna ‘look into my eyes experience’, but gently going into a relaxed state. I never felt that I lost control. I look forward to the sessions and have found it immensely helpful. SH
My friend recommended Karen following her treatment some years ago for managing anxiety. I was very sceptical as to whether she could help with my sleep problem, as it had been going on for 7 years! I was surprised by the whole experience. I found that within a few weeks I was sleeping through the night for the first time. Following treatment my sleep is so much better than I could have imagined. I do have nights where I don't sleep through, but I don't panic like I used to and as a result things get better again. DW
My neighbour explained that Karen had helped her daughter manage her anxiety at school and cope with a blood phobia. I had noticed that I was starting to use slot machines more and more. I made excuses to go and I was ashamed by what I was doing. The hypnotherapy not only allowed me to get on top of the gambling, it changed things that I wasn't expecting. I would describe it as 'a total look at my life'. I found that I was more confident, happier and generally felt more in control. - DD
I saw Karen for sessions to reduce my blushing. Through learning why I blushed and building my confidence, it no longer phases me. I feel less embarrassed and find it easier to socialise now I am not so self conscious. CM
