About me

Hypnotherapy and hypnosis is used as a tool to help individuals to focus on the issues that they feel are stressful to them. It involves techniques of relaxation and meditation where the individual remains in control at all time which enables them to identify for themselves the areas feeling most difficult for them. I believe that an integrated approach to each individual is key to benefitting from a therapeutic relationship. So,in my practice I draw on many counselling tools depending on the presentation and issues you bring these include cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy and mindfulness. These techniques are particularly appropriate where anxiety is related to destructive negative self-hypnosis. Where we convince ourselves of inadequacy, we use self defeating thought patterns to hold us back. Both mindfulness and the use of homework can assist in creating new positive constructive suggestions and patterns.

Work can be short term to a mutually agreed time frame or longer term. I also offer an assessment and referral service where I can guide you to other more appropriate therapies to meet particular needs, for example couples counselling and working with addictions.

Whatever we undertake together we will regularly review progress and mutually agree the way forward.

I am registered with ICO the organisation who govern the safeguarding of personal/client information and also carry professional indemnity insurance.

I am a qualified psychologist working in the field of integrative counselling using the techniques of short-term solution focused counselling underpinned with my studies in transactional analysis, person-centred counselling and cognitive behavioural hypnotherapy. My passion is to work with others to allow them to live comfortably and confidently in their world.

I initially trained in human resource work and then as an organisational psychologist looking at people in their workplace, the strain and stresses for people and organisations as they work together. This brought me to work with individuals and I trained in person-centred therapy, transactional analysis and with the UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy in the combination of hypnosis and cognitive behavioural therapy. I use mindfulness techniques extensively in my practice with individuals. I also practice mindfulness to focus on tasks and encouraging my own relaxation.

My previous career brought me to work for with the police service in their counselling and support service also working with and developing the psycho-social support systems for those involved in critical incidents within the service. I then worked for twelve years as counsellor and clinical team lead with a large healthcare provider supporting counsellors with their work with employees and families seeking support. I have during this time had a small private counselling practice seeing a range of clients.

I work voluntarily for a large charitable organisation working in the field of crisis at home and abroad also supporting volunteers who undertake this work. I continue to offer training and support to volunteers within the organisation.

Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Information about health conditions (*)

Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

As an integrative counsellor I take a person-centred approach to my counselling practice. This means that I believe that we are all products of our history and experience thus my practice is based on a multi-faceted approach working with each individual and their issues. Their is no one answer for each of my clients.

I can help you make changes in your thoughts and feelings to allow you to recognise helpful thinking and positive self-awareness. Allowing you to find ways to a fulfilling life.

I have had a nearly thirty year career in the field of working with people to built confidence to recognise their strengths to change patterns of thought.
