Overcome Anxiety and Panic with Helen Birch

Anxiety is a natural response to stress, helping us prepare for danger (known as the fight-or-flight response). However, when it becomes intense, frequent, or interferes with daily life, it can develop into an anxiety disorder.

Types of Anxiety Disorders:

Generalised Anxiety Disorder (GAD): Ongoing worry and physical symptoms like inner tension, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, dizziness, and a sense of dread - often not tied to any specific event.

Panic Disorder: Sudden, intense panic attacks that seem to come out of nowhere. These episodes can cause symptoms like chest pain, breathlessness, and fear of dying or losing control.

  • Phobias: Irrational fears of specific objects or situations. These include:
  • Simple phobias – e.g. fear of spiders, heights, or blood.
  • Agoraphobia – fear of leaving home or being in places where escape feels difficult.
  • Social phobia – fear of social situations or public speaking.

Phobias often begin after traumatic experiences and can lead to avoidance behaviour, which worsens the issue over time.

You're not alone - and recovery is possible. Get support with Helen Birch and take your first step toward calm and confidence.

How Hypnotherapy Can Help with Anxiety and Panic

Clinical hypnotherapy with Helen Birch can help you overcome general anxiety, panic attacks, and phobias by addressing the root cause in the subconscious mind.

Anxiety and panic often stem from the brain reacting to imagined threats as if they’re real. Through hypnotherapy, we can reprogram these responses, helping you feel calmer, more confident, and in control.

With Helen, you'll:

  • Learn powerful relaxation and self-hypnosis techniques
  • Uncover and resolve the subconscious triggers of anxiety
  • Develop a more positive, resilient mindset
  • Understand and manage your personal stress triggers

Helen offers a comprehensive programme with immediate relief and long-term strategies so you can reclaim your life - free from constant fear and worry.

You weren’t born to live in anxiety. It’s time to move on.

Phobias: Common and Treatable

A phobia is an intense, irrational fear of an object, place, or situation. Phobias are very common and can develop at any age - sometimes after trauma, or from trying to make sense of anxiety.

Phobias fall into two main types:

  • Object phobias (e.g. dogs, spiders)
  • Process phobias (e.g. flying, injections, dentists)
  • Some combine both, like emetophobia (fear of vomiting).

When faced with the feared trigger - or even just thinking about it - people may experience racing heart, shortness of breath, trembling, or a strong urge to escape. Emotionally, it can cause panic and fear of losing control or embarrassment.

Avoidance often makes the fear worse and can seriously limit life - but phobias are highly treatable, and you don’t have to live with them.

Phobias are common, and there's no need to feel embarrassed - you won’t be the first I've helped. Hypnotherapy offers a gentle, effective way to overcome phobias, often in just a few sessions. In fact, the more intense the fear, the quicker the results can be.

Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
Get Control of Your Gut with Helen Birch Hypnosis

Your gut has its own nervous system - the enteric nervous system - which communicates with your brain and responds to emotions. That’s why stress and anxiety can trigger or worsen IBS symptoms.

IBS is often described as anxiety in the gut. It’s common in people who internalise stress and overthink, even if they don’t appear outwardly anxious.

Hypnotherapy works directly with the subconscious and the gut-brain connection, helping to calm the digestive system and reduce symptoms.

IBS affects around 1 in 5 adults in the UK. The National Institute for Clinical Excellence (NICE) recognises hypnotherapy as an effective treatment.

You don’t have to suffer - hypnotherapy can help you feel better from the inside out.

IBS Hypnotherapy Programme

Hypnosis helps in 80% of IBS cases where other treatments fail. Helen offers a gut-directed programme of 4–6 sessions over 2 months, supported by audio downloads.

Clients often report reduced symptoms and no longer feeling anxious about IBS.

Trauma, PTSD & EMDR Therapy
Trauma is personal - it can stem from accidents, violence, loss, or even hearing about a traumatic event. PTSD may involve flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, and emotional numbness that disrupt daily life.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing)
EMDR is a proven therapy for PTSD and trauma-related issues. It uses guided eye movements or other bilateral stimulation to help the brain reprocess and release trapped emotional memories.

Many clients find relief from symptoms like anxiety, panic attacks, phobias, guilt, and relationship difficulties - even when they couldn’t talk about the trauma before.

EMDR helps with:

  • PTSD
  • Panic attacks & phobias
  • Anxiety & guilt
  • Trauma-related relationship issues
  • Fear of being alone or trusting others

EMDR is a natural, effective process to help you heal and feel grounded again.

Helen has worked with clients affected by childhood trauma, abuse, natural disasters, serious accidents, violent crime, domestic abuse, terrorism, and suicide loss. She also supports emergency service workers dealing with trauma and PTSD.

Performance Anxiety
Performance anxiety can affect confident people in specific situations, like public speaking, interviews, performances, dating, or exams. Symptoms include rapid heartbeat, nausea, trembling, and mental blocks.

It happens when the mind wrongly sees the situation as a threat. Hypnotherapy helps rewire that response - replacing fear with calm confidence, while keeping just enough excitement to boost performance. It's often quick and effective to treat.

Give a Great Performance!

Helen Birch helps people stay calm and confident in high-pressure moments - whether it’s a speech, interview, court appearance, driving test, or first date. She’s also worked with professional performers, athletes, and teams to enhance their performance.

Self-Confidence and Self-Esteem

We all have moments of low confidence, but long-term low self-esteem can harm our mental health and daily life.

What is self-esteem?
It’s how we see ourselves. Healthy self-esteem means feeling positive and able to handle life’s ups and downs. Low self-esteem leads to negative self-view and less confidence to face challenges.

What causes low self-esteem?
Often it starts in childhood through messages from family, friends, and media. Stress, difficult events, and personality traits like negative thinking or perfectionism can also lower self-esteem.

How does low self-esteem affect us?
It can make us avoid social situations and challenges, which may feel safe short-term but worsens self-doubt long-term. This can harm mental health and lead to anxiety or depression.

Boost Your Confidence with Helen Birch
Hypnosis can help remove negative beliefs, build assertiveness, and teach self-acceptance beyond just “positive thinking.” It helps you recognize and grow your inner strengths.

Get Better Sleep with Helen Birch

Insomnia means trouble falling or staying asleep, or poor-quality sleep. If you struggle with any of these, you might have insomnia. It affects up to 50% of people worldwide and gets worse with age, especially in women.

Anxiety - often about sleep itself - is a major cause. This “sleep anxiety” creates a vicious cycle of worry and sleeplessness, making it hard to rest and causing daytime tiredness and distress.

How Helen Can Help:
Hypnosis reduces stress and anxiety, improves sleep habits, and helps your mind and body relax naturally for better sleep. Helen’s HypSomnia program is trusted worldwide and available online or in person to help you overcome insomnia and rebuild healthy sleep.

Sexual Dysfunction, Sexual Freedom, and Relationships
Great sex starts in the mind.

Sex and sexuality are natural parts of being human, whether we’re sexually active or not. They play a vital role in relationships but can also be a source of challenges. Our sexual needs, desires, and responses change throughout life, influenced by many factors. How we feel about ourselves as sexual beings can either empower us or hold us back in various areas of life.

Sex remains taboo and surrounded by misinformation, shame, and guilt. Society sends mixed messages about what’s “normal” sex, how often we should have it, and what’s attractive. Media often presents unrealistic, idealised versions of sex, while pornography focuses on disconnected, mechanical acts.

In reality, great sex isn’t just about penetration or orgasms - it’s about feeling good, communicating needs, exploring desires, and giving ourselves permission to enjoy intimacy without guilt. Sexual confidence comes from accepting our uniqueness and understanding that sexual skills grow and change over time. Although sex can bring great pleasure, it can also cause anxiety, which may affect our desire and ability to connect sexually.

Helen Birch is an hypnotist with nearly 5 years’ experience in Sexual Freedom and Sexual Dysfunction. Helen offers judgment-free help for a wide range of sexual issues, including libido problems, painful sex, vaginismus, erectile dysfunction, premature ejaculation, anorgasmia, and more.

Fertility and IVF
Supporting couples through the challenges of IVF and fertility treatment. These treatments can be stressful, physically uncomfortable, and emotionally overwhelming, often impacting conception chances due to anxiety and stress.

Hypnofertility uses hypnosis to reduce stress, remove emotional blocks, and help couples work together throughout the fertility journey. Helen offers tailored programs addressing psychological and physiological factors to improve natural conception or support medical treatments like IVF, IUI, and donor transfers.

Helen combines one-on-one sessions with audio support to boost conception chances and provide ongoing care through early pregnancy. Remember, you’re not broken - help is available.

Pregnancy and Birth

Being relaxed and calm during labour helps your body work naturally and efficiently. Even breathing supplies oxygen to you and your baby, boosting oxytocin and endorphins, which ease contractions and reduce pain. Relaxed muscles make labour more comfortable and effective, while hormones like relaxin help the birth canal stretch.

Hypnosis for childbirth has become popular over the last 20 years as a safe, effective method to ease labour.

Helen supports women prenatally with anxiety and morning sickness, and postnatally with depression, birth trauma, and sexual issues. Sessions are available in person or online.

Pain Management
Research shows medical hypnosis is effective for managing acute and chronic pain, including cancer, burns, and arthritis. A 2000 meta-analysis found 75% of participants experienced significant pain relief with hypnosis.

Hypnosis can reduce the impact of pain, ease anxiety, improve sleep and mood, and lower opioid use. It may be as effective or better than other treatments and can complement them, saving time and money.

If you have new pain, see your doctor first. Hypnosis is a proven method to manage - and sometimes eliminate - pain.

Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

info Information about health conditions (*)

Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.

Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with

Sexual Freedom Therapy

Sexual freedom therapy offers a safe, supportive space to explore issues around desire, intimacy, sexual dysfunction, and emotional connection. I combine traditional sex therapy with clinical hypnotherapy to gently uncover and heal subconscious blocks - such as shame, trauma, or anxiety - that may be affecting your sexual wellbeing.

Whether you're struggling with low libido, painful sex, performance anxiety, or emotional disconnection, sex hypnotherapy can help you reconnect with your body and reclaim your pleasure.

For couples, this work can deepen intimacy, improve communication, and reignite passion. Together, we create a space to explore your relationship with curiosity, compassion, and honesty.

Hypno-oncology

Hypno-oncology is a specialised form of hypnotherapy that supports people living with cancer - emotionally, mentally, and physically. As one of the few qualified Hypno-Oncology Therapists in the UK, I offer gentle, tailored sessions to help ease anxiety, manage pain or nausea, improve sleep, and build emotional resilience.

This work complements medical treatment by offering a calm, empowering space to process fear, restore inner strength, and feel more in control during a difficult time.

Inner Child Healing & Generational Trauma
Inner child healing helps you reconnect with the younger parts of yourself that may still hold unresolved pain, fear, or shame from early life. Through hypnotherapy, we gently access the subconscious to release old wounds and rebuild self-worth, safety, and trust.

We also explore generational trauma - emotional patterns passed down through families. By breaking these inherited cycles, you can create space for healing, self-empowerment, and change that lasts across generations.
