Elizabeth Donegan Cognitive Hypnotherapy BSc (Hons), DipCHyp, HPD, NLP (prac)
Self Centre UK Ltd
Bury St. Edmunds
I am a qualified and experienced, full time Cognitive Hypnotherapist and my aim is to help you overcome your problem in the shortest space of time you feel comfortable with.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is a modern approach to hypnosis and it’s a bit different from the more traditional schools of hypnotherapy, because it uses recent discoveries and ideas from a range of approaches, not just hypnotherapy, and combines them with our current understanding of trance; this creates a therapy capable of being tailored to you and your specific needs rather than anyone else’s.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of areas, from behavioural to physical to emotional problems; it enables you to make the changes you want in your life, leaving you to live your life the way you want to live it.
I offer one-to-one Cognitive Hypnotherapy and coaching sessions from The Self Centre in Bury St Edmunds.
Choosing the right therapist or coach for you can be a key step in achieving whatever it is that brought you to this site. I hope this page and my website provides you with the information to help you decide if I’m the right person for you. I am always happy to discuss how I can help you, so feel free to contact me for a free telephone consultation, with no obligation to book a session, it's just a chat for us to talk in more detail about how I can help you.
Elizabeth Donegan BSc (Hons), MPrac, DipCHyp, HPD, NLP (Practitioner)
What is Cognitive Hypnotherapy?
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is an interactive therapy and it uses recent discoveries and ideas from a variety of approaches, not just hypnotherapy but Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP), Cognitive Theory, Positive Psychology and many more, combined with a modern understanding of trance, to help you make lasting change in your life.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is different from traditional hypnotherapy in the way it does not use standardised scripts - it uses Wordweaving instead. Wordweaving's are bespoke suggestion patterns created and written by me for each client. They are based around your problem and how you view the world. These unique suggestion patterns help change your perception of the problem, increase your rate of improvement and help make it permanent. I will also provide you with a copy of your Wordweaving for you to use at home.
Cognitive Hypnotherapy is also different in the way it is the first of its kind to launch a research project demonstrating it’s effectiveness for the treatment of anxiety and depression. For further information regarding the pilot study released in the Mental Health Review Journal and the research project, please see the research page or contact me.
How I Can Help?
Cognitive Hypnotherapy can help with a wide range of problems including those not usually associated with hypnotherapy. I see a range of clients, all with different problems and goals. Each session will be specifically tailored to you and your problem. I will work with whatever you present to me because the way you do and experience your problem is completely unique to you, meaning the solution has to be too. So whether you are seeking hypnotherapy for weight-loss, anxiety, panic attacks, addiction, a habit, low self confidence, insomnia, a phobia e.g fear of flying, OCD, Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), Hypnobirthing or to stop smoking, the chances are I can probably help.
As a Quest trained Cognitive Hypnotherapist I have an ever increasing range of techniques and tools to utilise, from many disciplines, found to be the most effective tools for change so far. This means I can pick the best techniques, tools and interventions for you, enabling you to overcome your problem in the shortest space of time you feel comfortable with. I will always aim to resolve the root cause of your problem and not just treat the symptoms.
You can find further information on Cognitive Hypnotherapy and me from my website or contact me for a free telephone consultation.

Thank you!”

"I contacted Elizabeth as I was hoping to start my own business but felt that nerves would never let me fulfil that hope. I can happily say that she has helped me immensely and I no longer feel that this is a barrier. Elizabeth immediately put me at ease and even from the first consultation, I felt very positive for the future. I really liked her use of several different techniques to achieve our goal and I'm sure I will continue to reap the benefits for many years to come".
G.L Bury St Edmunds November 2015
"Elizabeth has changed my life. She made something that completely controlled my life into an insignificant issue. I was so happy that I chose you, Elizabeth, as my therapist; you were friendly from the off and most importantly, made me feel comfortable, which enabled me to truly say how I was feeling, and overcome my issue. It was a massive step for me to actually go seek help, but once I started I noticed a dramatic improvement in every aspect of my daily life. Even my family and friends noticed a difference. You made me feel I could accomplish anything I put my mind to, which in turn, gave me the confidence that I needed. Thank you so much Elizabeth for all your help! You're first on my list for a recommendation.”
K.F Student, October 2015
“I went to see Elizabeth for help with giving up smoking in August 2015. I had, however, given up smoking but was using an electronic cigarette quite heavily. I think this was a problem Elizabeth hadn't come across but it wasn't an issue.
I had been a little apprehensive and sceptical about doing something like this but as soon as I arrived I was put at ease. The Self Centre in Bury St Edmund's is a very comforting and welcoming venue, and after meeting Elizabeth I started to relax.
I had been prepared to try cognitive therapy with possibly a limit of 4/5 sessions before I re-evaluated, but I didn't even need that many. I had a total of 2 sessions and haven't used my electric cigarette or had a real cigarette since. The whole process was simply, straightforward, flexible and with no pressure. I would not hesitate in recommending Elizabeth or returning to her again”.
Patrick, Traffic Officer for Highways England, September 2015
“Needed help and Elizabeth was there, extremely sensitive and I never once felt judged. Highly recommend her”.
Craig, Landscape Gardner, June 2015
"Thank you so much Elizabeth for helping me to successfully work through some issues that were bothering me. Your professionalism in building rapport and then using your skill and experience to help me find answers that I could move forward with were extremely helpful. I have no hesitation in thoroughly recommending your services."
Joe, Professional Writer and Entrepreneur, April 2014
"Just a quick note to say how useful the hypnotherapy sessions we had were. They were instrumental in helping me to see my issues more clearly and you also gave me some excellent practical tips which worked for me on a day to day basis too. The additional downloads were very handy for a busy mum like me. Thanks again."
M. Carter, April 2014
" Just wanted to say thank you for helping me with my lack of self confidence in starting up a business. I felt you showed kindness, compassion and understanding and helped improve my confidence levels very quickly. I have now achieved things I never thought I would.
