Deborah Hill: M.A.,BSc (Clinical Hypnosis) DipHE, HPD, Cert. EMDR
I am a professional Hypnotherapist and completely committed to offering you the best service possible to help you achieve the lasting changes that you want. I am passionate about the benefits of hypnotherapy and this motivated me to be one of the first hypnotherapists in Europe to study for a BSc in Clinical Hypnosis. During 3 years of study, I learned the fascinating science behind mind-body connection and in July 2012 I was awarded a First Class Honours Degree. This entitles me to describe myself as an Advanced Practitioner of Hypnotherapy and a Clinical Hypnotherapist.
I have carried out clinical research in the areas of Hope, Optimism and Well-being and have seen these three areas significantly increase in people through hypnotherapeutic intervention. I am able to synchronize a combination of skills, knowledge and experience and use them to maximize the therapeutic benefit for each individual client.
I am professionally trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing). EMDR is a highly effective treatment for trauma and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. I use EMDR very effectively in conjunction with hypnosis to alleviate the effects of negatively emotional significant events.
If you are motivated enough to seek help, then I fully believe that you have within yourself, the resources you need to make the changes you want, whether it is to stop gambling, to eat less or to let go of unhelpful anxieties. I have wide experience of working with a range of issues including unwanted habits and behavioural addictions or unhelpful thought processes leading to difficulties with self-esteem, confidence, anxiety and depression. My approach is warm, caring and always client-centered.
As a Clinical Hypnotherapist, my role is complementary to traditional medical practice. If you have an issue and are unsure whether hypnotherapy can help, please do not hesitate to contact me.
I will help you develop awareness of your own resources, abilities, knowledge, understanding and capabilities and provide you with enabling strategies for change. Change could be represented in new ways of thinking, new ways of using language to communicate, new perceptions, changing attitudes, new ways of responding to a problem or a person, altered behaviours, increased self-understanding, increased optimism and feelings of well-being.
Last year I completed my Masters in Relationship Therapy and was awarded Distinction. Why did I take up this study? Because many of my clients asked me to work with them AND their partner! All I could do at the time was to refer them to Relate. I have now developed significant understanding of Systemic and Psychodynamic theory and am experienced and qualified in working with couples and families.
My practice is conveniently located in the centre of Sheffield. I am an accredited member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy and a member of the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council, working at all times in accordance with their Code of Ethics.
My first Degree was in Fine Art. Hypnotherapy is a creative process and I feel my creativity greatly assists my therapeutic work. My previous working roles have always involved working creatively with people and community. I have direct experience of people's emotional and physical struggles and my commitment to making a positive contribution led me to volunteer for six years for a mental health charity.
I am fully CRB checked and have wide experience of hypnotherapeutic work with children. Additional specializations include habit disorders and performance enhancement.
Training, qualifications & experience
My qualifications are:
MA Relationship Therapy, Distinction.
BSc Clinical Hypnosis: Degree Award: First Class Honours.
Diploma of Higher Education in Clinical Hypnosis. Award: Distinction.
Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma.
Certificate in Discursive Empowerment.
Diploma in NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming),including New Code NLP.
I am also fully trained in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing)
EMDR is recommended by the National Institute of Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the World Health Organisation (WHO) as one of the most effective treatments for trauma and PTSD. The reason that this particular form of therapy is more effective than other more ‘talking focused’ therapies such as CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy) is that trauma is located in the ‘emotional centres’ of the brain. There is a strong physical/body component to trauma and EMDR provides the space for you to ‘reprocess’ the experience, safely through guided therapeutic channels so that you no longer hold the trauma in your every day awareness. As a result, you will feel healed, restored, more in control, more relaxed and at ease with yourself.
I am an Accredited member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, a member of the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis, a member of the EMDR Association and a member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).
Registered / Accredited
Being registered/accredited with a professional body means an individual must have achieved a substantial level of training and experience approved by their member organisation.
British Society of Clinical Hypnosis
The British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH) is a national professional body whose aim is to promote and assure high standards in the practice of hypnotherapy.
There are various types of membership of BSCH, including associate members, full members, diplomats and fellows.
Registration demands good quality training, ethical practice and adherence to a code of conduct.
National Council for Hypnotherapy
The National Council for Hypnotherapy holds one of the largest registers of independent Hypnotherapists in the United Kingdom and strives to maintain the highest standards among its members.
There is an agreed Code of Conduct, an established Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure and all members are obliged to maintain comprehensive Public Liability & Professional Indemnity Insurance, maintain regular CPD (continuing professional development) hours, and attend Supervision when needed.

In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.
A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

Information about health conditions (*)
Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.
We would need to meet first for an initial assessment.
This will be approximately one and a half hours duration. After the initial assessment we would normally meet once a week for a one hour session.
Each session will cost £67. (I do not charge for the extra time involved in the Initial Assessment. Your Initial Assessment will still cost £67).
Please bear in mind that the hypnotherapist is working for more than one hour as time is spent preparing interventions for each client.
I offer a highly effective 2 session, Stopping Smoking Programme which costs £134.
Hypnotherapy is usually effective after 4 - 6 sessions of treatments.
There are no hidden costs.
