Clare Rusby Cert.Hyp CS
I would want to know something about the person I was going to work with if I was looking for any sort of therapist so, I'm going to start with some information about me. I’m 50 years old, I have a partner, 3 kids and 3 dogs, yes, 3 of each! Up until 2 years ago I was a full-time lawyer, having been working for 25 years as Fellow of the Institute of Legal Executives running personal injury files. At 48 I decided to change my life, in truth I had been thinking about it for several years but the thought of being out of my comfort zone panicked me enough to stop me taking the plunge for some time.
I’d had enough of working in the law and wanted to pursue something I’d always been interested in, mental health. So, I signed up for a 3-year training course to become a qualified Counsellor and Hypnotherapist. I am now qualified in hypnotherapy which I now practice with enthusiasm and excitement and am working toward my qualification in Counselling.
I work from home to keep my costs down, and because I also work part time as a front-line crisis support worker in Liverpool dealing with people who really are in crisis, of all ages. Some are brought in my police triage cars, others are referred by mental health support centres or the hospital A&E Departments and some simply walk in off the street. These souls have a range of mental health issues ranging from personality disorders, O.C.D, Psychosis, Schizophrenia, depression, anxiety or addictions or they hear voices, or, as I’ve experienced, suffer with several or more of the above which makes life even harder for them. My counselling skills are truly put to the test and I gain great personal as well as professional satisfaction from lifting people from rock bottom and putting them in a much better place.
Why hypnotherapy?.... because I love the way Hypnotherapy changes lives for the better.
I want to make a difference to people who are looking to make changes whether it be weight loss, stopping smoking, phobia's or other irrational fears, anger management, public speaking, driving test or exam nerves, It could be something as simple as wanting to be able to concentrate more and be more focused on goals. There is nothing that hypnotherapy cannot help with.
Some changes need only be small to make a difference. For example, if you want to lose weight, suggestions about healthy eating (using foods you actually like) will make a difference rather than trying to force yourself to stop eating everything you like, even if it is bad for you. Wouldn't it be better to just eat pizza one night a week instead of 4 and make healthier choices the other nights rather than trying to stop yourself eating pizza entirely. That will just lead to misery. The same can be said for reducing drinking, or going to the gym. You don't need to try and force yourself to go 5 nights out of 7 when say 2 or 3 will suffice to start and in so doing will start to form a new "habit" which will be easier to maintain and you may actually enjoy it!
I have a particular interest in stress and anxiety and what it does to the body and the mind. Some stress is good for us, it's what gets us out of bed and focused in the morning but too much stress affects a persons physical as well as mental health. A large percentage of the population suffer with chronic stress or anxiety. Stress is our bodies natural reaction to fear and change. Our subconscious, which is responsible for our survival, sends us into fight or flight mode when it perceives a threat to us. Unfortunately, it does not differentiate between genuine life-threatening danger and every day occurrences such as a meeting with the boss or being late for work.
Symptoms of stress are:
- not sleeping well
- gaining weight, especially around the abdomen even when eating well and exercising
- more prone to infections and colds
- increased backaches, neckaches and headaches
- gut/digestion issues
- mood swings, anxiety and depression
- lack of libido
Stress can also lead to mineral and vitamin deficiencies in the long term such as:
- cracked lips (vitamin B6)
- teeth grinding (vitamin B5)
- white spots on the nails (zinc)
- constipation and diarrhoea (magnesium)
- bleeding gums (vitamin C)
- raised spots on limbs (vitamin E)
- throat and chest infections (vitamin A)
The good news is that stress and anxiety are easily treatable with hypnotherapy. You will be taught relaxation techniques and coping strategies to really make a difference to your day to day life, both personally and professionally.
I offer specific Relaxation sessions at a reduced rate.
Whatever your concerns are, there will be a solution to your problem, we just need to find it.

There are two choices for how you wish to proceed once you have made the decision to see me for treatment.
OPTION 1 An initial consultation appointment will be arranged when we will meet and discuss your requirements in detail and I will take down information necessary to gain an understanding of your needs and so I can provide a bespoke script for the commencement of treatment. You will have a relaxing taster session of hypnosis so you understand the process and be prepared for treatment to start. The appointment can last up to 90 minutes.
OPTION 2 I understand that people lead busy lives and whilst in an ideal world a lengthy initial appointment would be wonderful to be able to experience a taster of hypnosis, sometimes there is not the time or luxury of taking this step, instead a free telephone consultation works better. I can take all the necessary information over the phone and then arrange your first treatment session date and so when we first meet you will have bespoke script written especially for you and treatment will commence on our first meeting. The telephone call will take approximately 30 minutes.
What happens during treatment sessions
I will have written a bespoke hypnosis session tailored to exactly what you need following the initial consultation and any previous treatment sessions so your treatment progresses successfully.
Treatment sessions are usually about an hour long.
Often, after the initial consultation only a couple of treatment sessions are necessary, sometimes only one. It depends on the changes you want to make. This will be discussed at the initial appointment.
What happens during relaxation sessions
I will only need to take limited information if you are coming to see me purely for relaxation. The session will include a wonderful relaxing script to unwind you and take you to the deepest level of relaxation. I will also provide some advice and breathing techniques to help you to be able to relax yourself when you need to.
I hold an Enhanced DBS Check Certificate (used to be called CRB Check) and so can work with children and vulnerable adults.
I am flexible with appointment times, please contact me for details of availability
