About me

Hi. My name is Cathy and I founded Calm Hypnotherapy.

Am I qualified?

Yes.  I am fully qualified and nationally accredited as a hypnotherapist and NLP practitioner. Although based in Sheffield (at The Practice Rooms) I am happy to provide face to face services across South Yorkshire, north Derbyshire, and west Nottinghamshire by arrangement. I also provide services across the world via Zoom. All sessions are in English only.

My background

I have been a qualified social worker for more than 36 years and have enjoyed building helpful professional relationships with people across a broad range of cultural backgrounds and experiences.  I was born and brought up in Brisbane, Australia but have lived in the UK for the best part of 25 years.  I have dual Australian / British citizenship.  I have worked for many years with others in a coaching, mentoring and training role and have presented at national and international conferences and events.  I am passionate about what I do and hope I can help others to resolve issues from their past or present so they can move on to lead happier lives.

I work from a solution-focused framework and use an Eriksonian approach amongst the tools in my toolkit. This means that I take a person-centred approach to helping people solve their own problems as I believe that you are the expert in your life.

Why hypnotherapy?

I have qualified as a hypnotherapist because I wanted to use my people skills more therapeutically to help individuals lead a happier life through resolving some of the issues and psychological and emotional barriers they have built over the years. My interest came out of successful personal hypnotherapy for smoking cessation and fear of flying.

I am interested in helping people where medical services have already investigated the issue fully and they have no further services to offer – what can be called “sub-clinical” - relating to or denoting a “disease” (including phobias, anxiety or minor pain management) which is not severe enough to present definite or readily observable symptoms.

I have worked with children over a number of years and have an updated DBS, and am happy to work therapeutically with children and teenagers.

How can you get in touch with me?

Please contact me via email or my website to arrange a mutually convenient time for a free half hour consultation session where we can talk about your concern and see how I can help you. If we decide to go ahead, we will then arrange a mutually convenient time, date and location for our first session. This may be face to face or via zoom at your choice. I will direct you back to the website where payment is easily made via PayPal or card prior to the session. Zoom sessions may be recorded if you wish.

What can you expect in the first session?

The first session will involve an assessment so we can agree therapy goals. Most sessions involve some hypnotherapy unless you choose not to. In many cases, I will generally teach you self-hypnosis so you can sustain the benefits from the therapy after we have finished our work.

Can I help you?

My areas of interest include:

  • Anxiety & Panic attacks - e.g. performance, imposter syndrome, stage fright, public speaking, etc
  • Fears and Phobias - e.g. spiders, flying, buttons, lifts, animals, clowns, etc
  • Habits - e.g. insomnia and sleep problems, stuttering, blushing, bruxism (teeth grinding), bedwetting, hair pulling,
  • Stress Management and Relaxation - e.g. work, school, exams, relationships, low self-confidence or self-esteem, inner child, emotional issues, etc
  • Past Life Regression - for curiosity or healing
  • Obsessions and compulsions - e.g. checking appliances and security etc
  • Children and Teenagers – e.g. nightmares, fears, anxiety, school, bullying, parents separation etc
  • Minor pain management - e.g. tinnitus, arthritis, cluster headaches
  • Weight Management - eating problems and weight reduction
  • Addictions - e.g. quit smoking, food, gambling, social media, gaming

If your issue is not covered above, please contact me to discuss whether I can help you.
