Caroline Linton MBChB, Dip-CBH
About me
Hi, I'm Caroline, I am a Cognitive Hypnotherapist using an evidence-based approach (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy in combination with Hypnosis) which can aid a wide variety of difficulties; I work with you to gain control and move forward positively.
If you are struggling with an emotional or physical problem and are looking for the right therapist for you then please read on...
Hypnotherapy is a fantastic way to help to cope better with so many of the difficulties which life throws our way. I will teach you self-hypnosis and techniques you can continue to work with yourself. Hypno-CBT is a short-term therapy with long-term results, firmly grounded in evidence.
My approach is flexible, dynamic and adapted to your needs. I work with you to give you skills to take into the future to keep you doing the things you want to do. This is not a therapy which is done "to you" but "with you", in order for you to reach your goals. It is a common-sense, down-to-earth method which gives you back control.
We all face difficulties at some point in our lives. These can become obstacles that can prevent us moving on to where we want to be. It may be a fear of public speaking, chronic pain, a lack of confidence or general anxiety - often it is how we approach the issue that will determine the outcome. Using Hypnosis combined with a psychotherapy I can help you to overcome your difficulties and reach your desired goal.
I have a particular interest in general anxiety and phobias, pain management, insomnia and Irritable Bowel Syndrome. I can also help with confidence building, breaking of unwanted habits (including stopping smoking) and performance speaking anxiety. I have undertaken additional training to offer Hypno-gastric Banding to aid weight loss and offer a one off excellent Smoking cessation treatment package. I particularly aim to help in those conditions where our GPs and Medical practitioners have limited time and options to offer, or where the issue is troublesome but doesn't seem to warrant seeking medical advice.
I would love to work with you to help, so please get in touch to see how I can help. You can ring me to chat through your issue, or send me a message via my website and I will get back to you. We can then set up an appointment to suit you. I look forward to hearing from you.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am a qualified Medical practitioner, and worked for twenty years for the NHS in, the last ten years as a Consultant Psychiatrist. I left this area of work and added to my training in order to offer a more holistic treatment approach. I was inspired by Cognitive Hypnotherapy as it offers a "down to earth", collaborative and individually tailored treatment approach.
I trained at the London UK College of Hypnosis and Hypnotherapy and qualified with a diploma in Hypno-CBT in 2017. I bring years of experience in working with mental health issues to this area of therapy. I am also registered with the General Hypnotherapy Register (GHR) and the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC). Subsequently I have done further specialist courses to enhance my skills in the areas of stopping smoking and losing weight.
Member organisations

Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council
The CNHC encompasses many types of alternative therapy, including hypnotherapy.
In order to be admitted to the register a practitioner must have studied to the National Occupational Standards for that profession/discipline, or have reached the equivalent of the National Occupational Standards through other relevant training or at least three years of experience and been assessed by their peers.
A practitioner must also have professional insurance and agree to abide by the CNHC Code of Conduct, Performance and Ethics.

The General Hypnotherapy Register
Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).
Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level.
All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.
Accredited register membership

Accredited Register Scheme
The Accredited Register Scheme was set up in 2013 by the Department of Health (DoH) as a way to recognise organisations that hold voluntary registers which meet certain standards. These standards are set by the Professional Standards Authority (PSA).
This therapist has indicated that they belong to an Accredited Register.

Information about health conditions (*)
Hypnotherapy can enhance the well-being of individuals diagnosed with serious medical conditions, but should not take the place of medical treatment and advice. If you have been diagnosed with - or suspect you may have - any of these conditions, please speak to your doctor before starting hypnotherapy.
