Andrea Arogyaswamy, DHypPsych (UK), GQHP - Solution Focused Psychotherapist,
Brief, Solution Focused Hypnotheraphy & Psychotherapy
The unique combination of Solution Focused Therapy and Clinical hypnosis provides a holistic approach to well-being and brings about lasting change. I use the revolutionary Human Givens approach to psychotherapy which provides a highly practical and effective framework for emotional health.
Solution Focused Therapy is a modern form of psychotherapy that aims to make changes as quickly as possible, hence the term 'brief'. It is not always important to know why you have a problem, the aim is to resolve it. There's no painful delving into the past and you may even learn new skills to help you create a more satisfying future.
When we consider the emotional balance of an individual we can begin to identify any gaps in basic emotional needs (such as attention, security, connection and control), and the innate resources we have for meeting them (such as memory, imagination and problem solving abilities).
It is when these emotional needs are not met in balance, or our resources are used incorrectly, that individuals suffer emotional distress or fail to fulfil their potential.
My aim is to help you to fill any gaps and enable you to find and maintain the balance.
Hypnosis is used to update our understandings and modify problem behaviours such as anxiety, phobias or bad habits.
By tapping into the subconscious mind, we can utilise and discover forgotten or unrecognised skills and resources to enable you to deal with any unpleasant emotions or detrimental behaviour patterns.
During hypnosis, we can rehearse new ways of behaving, your preferred way. By doing this, your mind creates new neural pathways for a new way of behaving, making that new behaviour easier to adopt in everyday life. It will be easier to adopt because you've experienced it before, even though it was during hypnosis.
You could think of it like this - when you are visiting a new town for the first time, you're likely to consult a map to see how you get there. With map in hand you set off towards your destination. A wrong turn may be taken during the journey, but because you've got the map in hand, you can navigate back to the right road and eventually arrive at your destination.
On subsequent visits to that town, you may need to look at the map to refresh your memory and are likely to take it with you just in case. You may not need to refer to it as much as before, because there will be a familiarity to the route - landmarks, scenery.
Subsequent journeys will become easier and more familiar, the more you travel along that route...

The General Hypnotherapy Register
Hypnotherapists may become members of the General Hypnotherapy Register if they satisfy certain criteria with regard to both training and ongoing requirements as determined from time to time by the General Hypnotherapy Standards Council (GHSC).
Members are either registered at Practitioner status (which confirms that the GHR acknowledges their qualification to practice), or Affiliate status. Although Affiliate level registrants will have completed a sufficient number of training hours to equip them to commence seeing clients on a limited basis, the GHR does not acknowledge them to have yet been trained to full practitioner level.
All GHR Registered Practitioners are required to accept the published Code of Ethics and Complaints & Disciplinary Procedure.
Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with
If you have been diagnosed or suspect you may have one of the medical conditions starred above, you should consult your GP for advice, diagnosis and treatment and always inform your health professional before starting any alternative or additional therapies or treatments.
Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with
Over the years, I have also seen clients with the following issues:
- Bed wetting *
- Childbirth (building confidence & reducing labour trauma) *
- Headaches and Migraines *
- Dealing with guilt issues
- Dealing with change or loss
- Promotion of post op healing
- Dyslexia (reducing the associated anxiety
- Skin complaints, e.g. psoriasis / eczema *
I have worked with a number of clients to help promote swift healing following various different conditions including torn ligaments, hip replacements, bowel surgery and following cancer treatments.
I will take you on a 'healing journey' whilst in hypnosis and help you to harness your own potential to bring about a quick and strong recovery.
I have teenage children and so am experienced with the many challenges facing our youngsters. My daughter was diagnosed with being dyslexic at the age of 7, and I understand how this impacts on the individual. She is now 18 and applying for University, something, I never envisaged for her in the early days.
I can help youngsters to reduce anxiety that is associated with the frustrations of being dyslexic and build confidence so that school is a more tolerable environment.
Often dyslexic children take a longer time to become dry over night and I can help address this issue also.

"I have improved in many ways since coming along to see you. I have a much more positive outlook and I don't carry the guilt that I had before. It's nice to be able to talk to someone who you know understands, but who will be objective - family/friends cannot do this."
Mrs S, Henfield, West Sussex
"Thanks very much for all your help getting to grips with my labour anxiety. The sessions and CD definitely helped enormously and meant that I didn't worry at all in the run up to the big day."
Dr T, Brighton
I feel a lot calmer - less stressed. Since coming to see you I have realised that I don't need to get stressed to get things done. My outlook is more positive and overall I am very happy with the results - thanks!"
Mrs E, Burgess Hill
I've been frightened of small enclosed places since I was 10. In fact when on holiday in Egypt, I couldn't go inside the pyramids because I was too frightened. Since coming to see you, the fear has gone completely. I don't even think about it any more. Pity I didn't see you before I went to Egypt!
Mrs S, Bolney, West Sussex
"I used to have a phobia of birds. I had been really frightened of birds since I was a small child. Since our session I can actually tolerate them now. I feel more confident in myself. I am so pleased, I can now go to outdoor places with my grandchildren. I wasn't able to do this before seeing you. I would like to say a big thank you."
Mrs W, Burgess Hill
"It's been 2 months since I saw you for help giving up smoking. I just don't think about it anymore. Thanks!"
