Hypnotherapy is a completely natural and very relaxed form of therapy. My aim is to help people make the changes they want to make, whether it be weight loss or help with anxiety, and improve their over all sense of well-being. This is through the method of a more traditional form of hypnotherapy using simple positive suggestion in hypnosis. I am a great advocate of hypnotherapy as an alternative and compliment to traditional medical treatment. To me, enabling people to take time over making positive changes in their lives so that they feel in control and the changes will be long lasting.
My specialist areas are stress, anxiety, depression and trauma based difficulties. I also focus on relaxation techniques to aid self-help and self-empowerment in treatment. This not only enhances a positive well-being but provides positive self-esteem and self-confidence. I have found that many people simply want to know how to relax effectively so they can benefit from less stress and are less likely to suffer from consequent difficulties such as anxiety and depression. Hypnosis also helps to reduce high blood pressure, panic attacks, and aids digestion.

Training, qualifications & experience
In the last ten years I have worked with young children, adolescents and adults who are suffering from stress, anxiety and depression or a combination of these three. I recently worked with children from 5 to 17 years old in a special needs school who almost always had anxiety and/or depression, as well as many social and emotional difficulties resulting from trauma. Many of the children had psychological disorders such as Autism, ADHD and Fetal Alcohol Syndrome, suicidal tendencies, coupled with varying degrees of motor difficulties. Forming a rapport, building trust, good communication is essential regardless of age, and there cannot be a time restriction on these.
The adolescents I have worked with have been young people who have been to court for a low level criminal offence. They too have often had drug and alcohol misuse, social and emotional difficulties, psychological disorders and most often anxiety and depression problems, again sometimes trauma based. As with all therapeutic working relationships, it is important to build trust and a rapport to enable the relationship to move forward in a positive way. This way positive work can begin and positive long term changes are possible. Working with adolescents is challenging and exciting. I absolutely love the diversity of young people and how resilient they can be.
I have also worked with adults who have just left prison and are reintegrating back into society. Again, these clients often had drug and alcohol misuse, psychological difficulties and social and emotional problems. This was also very challenging work albeit in a different way. This work enabled me to see that even with the most difficult of backgrounds, it is possible to make positive changes.
My experience is mostly based around anxiety, depression and trauma with a variety of age groups (see above). I am flexible in my work and use a holistic integrated approach. This means that each client is seen as a unique individual. My clients are treated as a whole person, as apposed to just their mind, and I will use a variety of techniques from my working experience and my training in psychology, hypnotherapy and counselling, as an integrated approach to enable the best possible outcome for them as an individual.

"I have been working with Amanda for several months. During this time i have received counselling and hypnotherapy. Amanda has worked in a gentle and positive way to help me move forward with a number of anxiety-related issues, i have developed a more positive attitude and my confidence and self-esteem have improved greatly. I have used counsellors and completed CBT course, however the impact of these have not been as useful and sustained as the improvement i have seen whilst working with Amanda. The hypnotherapy is relaxing and really helped me change my way of dealing with problems. I have recommended her to several friends, and will continue to as she has helped me so much." (Anonymous)
