Modern life brings many demands, balancing work and family commitments can become stressful, adapting to change and being constantly in demand. We are connected to our phones and devices and we may sometimes feel the urge to compulsively check our phones, engage in unhealthy behaviours, too much drink/smoking/food/gambling and more.
All to comfort ourselves!
Instant gratification, feels good in the moment but often leads to further issues, greater stress and possibly moving us further away from long-term goals.

Exercise has a positive effect on health and well-being.
It pumps up your feel-good neurotransmitters, endorphins, chemicals in the brain that act as natural painkillers and improve our ability to sleep, which in turn reduces stress.
It can create a form of trance or meditation, your focus is on your activity allowing your mind to process the events in your day, leaving you feeling clearer and calmer.
2. Positive interaction
The support of our family, friends and colleagues can help us to view things from a different perspective, talking things through, helps us not to feel overburdened and we feel less vulnerable, we may even laugh at the situation which is a great stress reliever.
3. Positive thoughts
Take responsibility for the things you can change and accept the things you can’t.
Engaging in “what can I do to improve my situation?” thinking will help you to take control and feel empowered.
4. Take some me time
Give yourself permission to enjoy time out of your responsibilities to engage in activities which bring you joy and happiness. No guilt just enjoy.
5. Engage in new experiences
Learning helps to keep our minds focused on something positive, feel good about ourselves for overcoming challenges and striving to achieve our potential. All of which increase our self-confidence.
6. Helping others
Supporting others to help themselves, sharing experiences can helps us to keep things in perspective and become more resilient. Being kind and non-judgemental, nurturing strengths and resources in others can feel very rewarding.
We all have our thing that helps us to relieve stress, for my son it is football, the girls love being with their friends, I love to read and become absorbed in a story, what is your “thing”? Maybe you have forgotten to allow time in your life for it, hopefully, you can be curious how your life will improve when you start engaging in it again.
