In a rut? Get recharged and confident with hypnosis

For many people, trying something new for the first time can be very daunting. Some may lead ‘safe’ protected lives preferring to know what to expect and do. Others might like the security of having a 9 - 5 job, perhaps even doing the exact same task over and over again every day of every week of every year until retirement. They like to know exactly how much money to expect every month which allows them to budget accordingly saving a little at the end of each month for treats and holidays.

They may prefer to stay in the same long-term relationship for the rest of their life, perhaps marrying their childhood sweetheart and never once being tempted to stray. They may even decide to either remain in the house they grew up in or move just around the corner, preferring the familiarity of their surroundings and belonging to that particular community.

This group of people like to plan, they don’t like surprises and their first reaction is to say no when a suggestion is sprung upon them. They rarely agree to go on a spur of the moment date or drinks after work and their holidays are booked the year before, they even know what they will be eating for dinner a week on Tuesday.

Then there is the other group of people who like to be spontaneous and take risks preferring every day to be one big surprise. They are forever looking for the next opportunity, making new friends, visiting new places, tasting exotic foods and love trying exciting and undiscovered holiday destinations.

They are constantly looking for new challenges and if none are forthcoming, quickly get bored and restless. They seek new business opportunities, often taking risks in their fast paced environment.

You see, we are all creatures of habit at times, it's just that some are more than others. You might like to think you are spontaneous, always on the look out to try something new and do something differently but we all at some point succumb to routine and structure in much of our everyday lives. There are routines we automatically do – they are more or less non-negotiable like showering, brushing teeth, taking the kids to school and so on.

For this second group of people, despite their best intentions not to be weighed down by routine and responsibility it happens nonetheless. Their idea of carefree living at times seems far away and this can lead to discontentment and a feeling of entrapment. All of a sudden they feel suffocated and desperately begin to feel they are no longer in control of their lives. Perhaps they’ve married another free spirit who shares their same hopes and dreams but suddenly, family comes along and before they know it, their children’s needs must come first. Maybe they had a job they loved which involved being hands on with some travelling involved but a promotion means they are now desk bound.

If not addressed at some point, these feelings can grow and manifest into symptoms such as anxiety as a feeling of suffocation sets in as restlessness takes over even leading to depression and stress. It can cause resentment and bickering in the home even leading to breakdowns in relationships. They start wondering if this is all there is to life and feel something is missing as a general feeling of unrest settles.

As these feelings usually creep up very slowly, they are not recognised as a problem until they are full on and the person wakes up one day and feels they've been hit by a freight train. Some accept it and decide that the life they once enjoyed is now over and this new, mundane existence is all they can expect. However, it does not have to be that way. You don't have to accept it. Hypnotherapy can help you rediscover your mojo by getting you to refocus on the things in life you once enjoyed. It can help you regain the passion you once had for life, the 'joie de vivre'.

The therapist will help you rediscover the carefree person you once were by guiding you back to those original feelings and helping you relive those moments of joy. They will help you rediscover yourself and how to be carefree in your present circumstances, enabling you to look at things differently in a different, brighter light.

Sometimes even those who belong to the first group suddenly decide to change and want to become more outgoing and spontaneous too.

Changing the habits of a lifetime can be difficult and most certainly daunting and hypnosis can help them too to look at life with a new set of eyes.
