Everyday modern life is full of hassles, deadlines, frustration, stress, peer pressure and demands. Feelings so familiar that they have become a way of life for many constantly fearing uncertainty. Fears can manifest easily making it difficult to control a situation. Juggling the conflicting demands of work and family can be overwhelming, this can affect a person’s self-esteem. Low self-esteem or self-confidence doesn’t always follow from life’s frustrations and difficulties. Sometimes it can just be behaviour that has been learned during the teens or early adulthood. These feelings can range from mild to severe.
Also, the media dictates how an individual should live their life. Whatever the gender people want to look like celebrities they see on television and in magazines. Many people don’t realise the body image they see on television and in magazines is not true to life, the artists have been touched up (makeup etc) to confirm with societies perception of perfect.
Research has shown an increase of one million men suffering from eating disorders and body dissatisfaction. Only 10 percent of these men have treatment. Theoretically, men and women alike are at risk from eating disorders, therefore, it is important to understand the factors behind this in order to in encourage silent victims to come forward.
What are the important ingredients to our self-esteem and self-confidence? The most important conversation is with ourselves - I believe everyone has enjoyed a positive state of mind at some point and understands what it feels like to be in a positive or negative state. Given the chance, I believe most people are going to choose the positive state of mind. Believe that the things that you want to do or achieve lie within your capability. Yes, you can take effective action. The human brain is capable of that! Believe this is possible, this is a process called "anchoring" and it can make unbelievable changes in your life.
