Most people will experience pain in their life at some time. Most of the time we can take an over the counter painkiller that will effectively take away that pain.
However, there are many people whose pain doesn't just disappear after a few days or weeks. Unfortunately, despite the wonderful advances in modern pharmaceuticals and medical understanding, too many people still suffer from long term chronic pain i.e. pain that has lasted longer than six months. There are various causes of pain including cancer, trauma, arthritis or fibromyalgia to name a few. People trying to cope with these conditions can find their mental well-being deteriorates. Depression and anxiety about the future or intense frustration about restrictions on every day activities can set in. Life can become so dominated by the 'condition' that activities become increasingly curtailed or avoided altogether. Quality of life can plummet. This is the point at which hypnotherapy can step in and help turn things right around. Trials have been conducted testing the use of hypnosis compared with other forms of treatment. Those patients who received a course of hypnosis showed a significant improvement in symptoms. Their experience of pain was reduced!
A scientific peer review of 13 clinical trials dealing with common causes of chronic pain writes "The efficacy of hypnosis in reducing pain was consistently confirmed for a wide variety of chronic pain conditions" - [Hypnotherapy for the Management of Chronic Pain ref from the National Institutes of Health].
Hypnotherapist's can help clients to see beyond their 'limitations', to re-focus on what they can do. They can learn to be more confident and start getting control back in their lives. They can understand that they no longer need to be a victim of their condition. Using their CD for self-hypnosis at home, the work done during sessions is reinforced to great effect. Clients can benefit both in the reduced experience of pain and in a much improved sense of mental well-being. Don't let your life be ruined by pain.
