How Hypnotherapy can help you
I’d like to let you into a secret. You don’t need to have a problem to benefit from hypnotherapy. Hypnotherapy can be equally effective for people working towards a goal.
In this article I’ll explain why and how. Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation.It’s a completely safe and natural state. In fact we pass through it briefly each time we go to sleep and each time that we wake up.
Whilst relaxed in hypnosis it’s possible to bypass the critical sensor which exists at the conscious level of mind. The critical sensor decides what we would and would not believe. Although the critical sensor has its uses it can be limiting to our achievement.
For example we might believe that we will never be able to earn above a certain amount. Or progress in other areas of life such as finding a life partner.
Many people are held back also by an inadequate self image even those that appear outwardly successful. We all have limits. Most people however operate far below those limits. People who appear highly successful in the world of sports,business or entertainment are operating close to their real limits not their imagined ones as most people do.
Our self image determines what we can and can’t achieve. As the saying goes “if you think you can or you can’t you are probably right”. To illustrate the person who believes that they will never get a promotion probably won’t apply. Even if they do they are unlikely to prepare adequately for the promotion board or put themselves across well on the day.
We all act in keeping with our self image. So if yours is holding you back as is the case with many people hypnotherapy can help you change it. This can be done by means of direct suggestion, that’s a suggestion related to what you want to achieve. For example a suggestion for someone who dislikes speaking at meetings could be “you’ll feel calm and confident when you are required to speak at a meeting. You will prepare adequately and speak clearly and confidently”.
If the person who is nervous about speaking at meetings were told this when not relaxing in hypnosis there would be no change in behaviour. This is because they would not believe this statement. It’s understandable as the statement is at odds with their past experience.
However in the relaxed state of hypnosis the critical sensor (which decides what we will and will not believe) is bypassed so that both levels of mind conscious and unconscious accept this suggestion. The result is that the person begins to behave in the manner suggested when he/she is required to speak at meetings.
This has a positive effect on the self image. The person now begins to see themselves as someone who performs well at meetings. This creates a positive spiral causing constant improvement in the previously avoided or disliked situation.
This can be applied to almost any goal that a person desires to achieve. Here are some situations in which hypnotherapy is frequently used to aid a good outcome,exam and driving test nerves, stage fright, public speaking, sports performances.
Of course hypnotherapy won’t make you more intelligent, a better musician or tennis player. What it will do is allow your natural ability to shine through free from lack of confidence or inadequate self image.
