How hypnotherapy can help with anxiety
Anxiety is a condition that can affect everyone at some point in their lives. In fact, over the last few years, there seem to be more and more people who are adversely affected by anxiety. I receive increasing numbers of enquiries for help with this debilitating condition. Anxiety is frequently experienced in many areas, including:
- Public speaking.
- Social situations.
- Self-esteem issues.
There are many other areas that people experience anxiety in, however, in every case, it has a seriously detrimental effect on a person’s life. Anxiety may be experienced in many different ways. Common symptoms include:
- Faster heart rate.
- Increased sweating.
- Feeling like the heart is pounding.
- Increased blood pressure.
- Unsettled stomach.
- Troublesome thoughts.
Anxiety restricts our way of life. It can cause people to avoid flying, going in lifts, social situations, public speaking and even going to areas where there might be certain animals that cause them anxiety.
How can hypnotherapy help?
In a hypnotherapy session you will first of all explore the root cause of the anxiety - finding out what triggers the anxiety and also what may have originally caused the anxiety to occur. Everyone is different, so it is essential to find out what the unique triggers are for each person.
Hypnotherapy itself is a gentle and relaxing treatment. Alongside all the other benefits you’ll get from hypnotherapy, you will learn some of the most effective relaxation techniques, which when you practice will themselves have an extremely positive effect on dealing with the anxiety.
Unlike the impression many people have about hypnosis from watching television shows, hypnotherapy is really about giving an individual more control over themselves, including their anxiety. The hypnotherapist works as a ‘guide’ to help you learn the techniques that you can then use yourself to overcome a wide range of issues.
During hypnosis, whilst you are deeply relaxed, positive suggestions can be extremely effective in helping to change largely unconscious negative thought patterns and habits. Suggestions will be created based upon the initial consultation to make sure they are personalised for you.
Another part of working with anxiety is helping people to change their automatic responses to anxiety causing situations. This involves becoming aware of the anxiety ‘triggers’ and the automatic thinking that follows. Hypnosis offers a highly effective way of changing and challenging some of the automatic negative thought patterns that contribute to anxiety.
There are also many different techniques that can be used to help deal with the anxiety depending upon the individual causes. These might include visualization techniques, NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) techniques, regression and other methods.
Hundreds of people take control of anxiety. Hypnotherapy can be an extremely effective way to overcome this deeply troubling experience and start to live the life you deserve. A few sessions of hypnotherapy frequently helps people overcome a lifetime of anxiety!
