Diets don't work
I’ve had several comments from weight loss clients wishing they too could go off into the jungle and lose weight quickly – as did all those in I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here.
Mel Sykes and the other jungle celebrities showed you can easily lose over a stone in a month when your diet is being restricted – but they had no option - at times their very low calorie rice and beans diet was putting them under both physical and emotional distress. You have to be desperate if eating live cockroaches seems an appealing way to satisfy your hunger pangs!
I believe you were born with the perfect weight management system – over time you have eaten for reasons other than hunger which has set up a whole host of additional calories being consumed.
Maybe you feel you have to eat everything on your plate, maybe you crave a certain food, maybe you eat when you’re stressed or to relieve boredom? All of these reasons have nothing to do with your body requesting fuel to keep you functioning. In fact you may be overeating so often you’ve forgotten what real hunger actually feels like?
I believe all of those additional excuses to eat – usually to satisfy your emotional needs - have to be addressed. We can all make changes, but hypnotherapy can help people make changes without the struggle. What I mean by that is unless you deal with these underlying needs, you will always be in conflict between your willpower trying to follow the latest diet or fad and your emotions and habits that are still crying out, needing to be “fed”.
My sessions are dynamic – I do incorporate a virtual gastric band for some clients. It’s a great mechanism to redirect you back into your body, often providing the client with real evidence that change is possible as they experience feeling satisfied with less and start to tune back into their hunger signals. Encouraged by how effortless it can feel when your mind and body are singing from the same hymn sheet for once.
If I were to give you any advice (and it wouldn’t be nutritional – we all know what we should be doing), it would be to set aside some time to really get to the bottom of your issue – not just hope the hypnotherapist can wave a magic wand and have it all sorted in five minutes. Hypnotherapy does and can produce magical results when both the client and the therapist work together, but most importantly when you realise diets don't work and start to look inside to learn how your problem came about.
