Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a condition that occurs after someone has experienced (or witnessed) some form of trauma. This may be physical or emotional in nature.
One of the symptoms of PTSD is experiencing severe anxiety, however this is different to the standard form of anxiety.
Anxiety in general involves the future, and worrying about what might happen. Those with anxiety may be concerned about a variety of situations.
For those with PTSD, the anxiety is related to the past – they are anxious because the situation reminds them of the traumatic event.
