Change your thoughts to be happier

Take a look at our quick guide to feeling happy no matter what life throws at you.

How to stop self-sabotage

Relationships, work, parenting, physical illness, loss – there are several ups and downs that we all endure on a daily basis that can make life incredibly stressful.

Yet for some people, experiencing difficulty is far less overwhelming than it is for others (or at least that’s what it seems like).

This can be quite baffling, but the reality is, everyone is capable of finding happiness when life is hard.

See below for a quick guide to changing your thoughts so you can feel better and more spirited no matter what life throws at you.

Diagnose your patterns of thought

Is your mind so full of negativity that you have no room for anything positive? Do you feel instantly sad when you are in a certain situation? Recognising unhealthy thought patterns and triggers before you react to them emotionally can help you to replace them with better ones, ultimately helping you to feel happier.

Identify and address attitude problems

If you are constantly thinking “I hate this, I hate that” then you are implanting negative thoughts in your mind and presenting yourself as someone who has an attitude problem. Instead of thinking “I hate my job”, make an effort to make it a better place to work, and go in with an open mind. This will directly impact your happiness levels.

Stop dwelling on the past

Spending your days worrying about things that have already happened harms your brain chemistry and prevents you from enjoying and making the most of, the present moment. Accept that there are some things you can’t change and learn from it.

Get rid of toxic people

There are some people that can have a significant impact on how happy you feel, and it is in your best interest to try and distance yourself from those who possess a negative energy. These types of people are just too toxic to have in your life and without them your happiness will no longer be suppressed.

Have a little faith in yourself

Having doubts is natural, but you musn’t let these hold you down and make you feel unhappy. Take a leap of faith and step outside of your comfort zone and try new things. Even if your new ventures don’t work out, your spirit will be lifted and you will feel much more confident and empowered.
