Can hypnotherapy cure unrequited love?
Unrequited love is the source of some of the world’s greatest poetry and the subject of just about every pop song that ever existed. But is it really possible to get rid of those feelings of pain, rejection and loss that come with trying to accept that the person you love doesn’t want you?
Loving somebody who will never love you back can be an incredibly painful and frustrating experience that can, for some, go on for years. Prolonged rejection can seriously knock a person’s confidence and self-esteem, and lead to debilitating feelings of worthlessness.
Although it often seems like those feelings of longing will never go away, there are a number of different ways to get over unrequited love. One way is to write self-pitying love songs and join a pop band; another is to channel any strong feelings into distractions such as sport or a hobby, and another is to try your hardest to get on with life until those old feelings finally fade enough for you to let someone new and better into your life.
However, if you feel like your unrequited love is taking over your life by preventing you from enjoying yourself, engaging properly with friends and family, or performing well at school, University or work, then you might benefit from seeking additional support.
Hypnotherapy treatment for unrequited love is becoming increasingly popular, and was even mentioned in last night’s episode of TOWIE, which aired on ITV. In the episode Bobby, who allegedly visited a hypnotherapist to help him get over his love interest Charlie, told Gemma how the session had made him ‘feel at one with nature’, before suggesting she try the treatment herself for weight loss.
Hypnotherapists treating symptoms of unrequited love use deep relaxation techniques to help their clients rediscover their own values as individuals, to explore where their feelings stem from, and to eventually help them to forget about the objects of their affections.
