The 25-year-old singer no doubt posted the Marilyn Monroe quote as a response to the backlash she received from critics after gaining 25lbs (11kg) during her Born This Way tour.
The part-Italian pop-star claims to have piled on the weight after eating too much pizza and pasta on the tour bus, triggering an explosion of cruel comments from the world’s press. Despite the criticism, Lady Gaga insists she is ‘proud at any size’.
The photos, showing Lady Gaga in her underwear, were posted on her Little Monsters social networking site and were titled ‘A Body Revolution 2013’.
Alongside the images she wrote: “I’ve battled bulimia and anorexia since I was 15,” before insisting she does not ‘feel bad’ about the weight gain, and that her boyfriend even preferred her ‘curvier’ new figure.
She ended the post by thanking her fans for knowing “the meaning of real beauty and compassion”.
Keeping a high level of self-esteem can be difficult in a society that values appearance so highly. There are sadly a lot of people who do judge others based on what they look like/how big they are/what they wear, but it is important to realise that these judgements are misguided, cruel and fundamentally ignorant. Building confidence and self-esteem takes time and practice, but it can be done. Often, it is not your body you need to change, but your attitude towards it.
