Chron’s is an inflammatory bowl disease. It affects about 2 to 7 in 100,000 people and can be quite unbearable and often life threatening if the symptoms are not controlled. Unfortunately there is no known cure for the disease and it is a case of managing and treating the symptoms. However research has suggested that hypnotherapy can keep the symptoms under control and allow the patient to live longer and more comfortably.
According to the Mayo Clinic, stress does not cause Crohn’s disease, but it can magnify the symptoms and cause a flare up. The University of Maryland Medical Center has promoted the use of hypnotherapy because studies have shown that it much improves immune function, decreases stress, increases relaxations, and eases feelings of anxiety. The main goal is to prevent flare-ups and to keep the patient in remission for as long as possible.
The study also found that relaxation techniques and psychotherapy were of great help in situations where the patient was suffering from any emotional conflict, such as stress or depression. The techniques enabled the patient to have better control over their symptoms and it allowed them to manage the symptoms in a pure and harmless fashion.
