About me

How can I help you?

You are unique, so I adapt my approach to suit your specific needs.

All clients that choose me have experienced different events in their lives which have prompted the problem or unwanted behaviour that brings them to my consulting room.  It makes perfect sense, therefore, to work with them and their specific needs, rather than using a 'one size fits all' treatment.

I work using three main skill sets:  Hypnotherapy; Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT) which is sometimes referred to as 'Tapping'; and Neuro-Linguistic Programming.  I combine my skills to guide you to the most effective and swiftest results.

Perhaps it would be best if I explained how I uses these skills to help you:

Hypnotherapy:

This is the fundamental core of my work.  Hypnotherapy refers to the set of skills I use to resolve my clients' issues.  When thinking 'Hypnotherapy' most people will immediately think ‘hypnosis’ and they would, of course, be completely right.  I use hypnosis, in one shape or form, with almost every client consultation I conduct; but hypnosis is just one of the valuable interventions I use to help my clients achieve the outcomes they desire.

“What is hypnosis like?”

Many of my clients are surprised to learn that a hypnotic trance feels completely familiar and comfortable, and there's a reason for this: hypnosis is 100% natural and perfectly normal.  It’s a state you experience many times each and every day.  One of the reasons you’ll find the hypnotic state feels so normal and natural is because you go through these hypnotic states just as you awaken in the morning; immediately before you drift off to sleep; and on many other occasions during the day.  Hypnosis is just an altered state of awareness, like when you drift off into a day-dream or are 'en-tranced' when watching a film.

In our hypnotherapy session you will achieve the changes you desire by utilising the natural ability you have to go into trance and, once you’re successfully in a hypnotic trance, I’ll deliver the hypnotherapy you want to achieve your goals – it really can be that easy!

“What makes hypnosis so effective?”

This is an excellent question. A unique characteristic of hypnosis is that the suggestions I give under hypnosis can bypass something called ‘the critical factor’, this is the barrier between your conscious and unconscious mind.  It is understood that your unconscious is by far the most powerful part of your mind; but it’s usually protected by ‘the critical factor’.  The unconscious is where habits; long-term memories; emotions; and imagination are stored in your mind. To deliver beneficial suggestions to your unconscious we first need to get past your conscious mind and here is where my skill as a hypnotherapist comes in.

Imagine for a moment trying to tell a smoker when they are fully conscious that they are a non-smoker.  Would they believe you? Not a chance! They wouldn’t because changing a belief or behaviour just isn’t that simple.  If you tell someone they’re something that they are not their conscious mind quite rightly disagrees, your conscious mind is not easily fooled!  However, by using hypnosis to remove this barrier to your unconscious mind I can install desired beliefs into your unconscious: beliefs that you will effortlessly accept and act upon when you’re out in the real world and no-longer under hypnosis.  Clever, isn’t it?

Emotional Freedom Techniques (EFT):

“The cause of all negative emotions is a disruption in the body’s energy system”

It’s probably best to start by explaining how people experience EFT in practice.  Have you ever experienced a ‘twang’ of emotion when recalling an upsetting experience?  The event may have taken place years ago but somehow the echo of pain or emotional discomfort can still be triggered and lives on inside you.

The good news is that it doesn’t have to be like that.  It is possible to remember the experience, and benefit from all you learnt from the experience, but no-longer experience the pain and upset.  Can you imagine how useful that would be in your life?  Can you see the possibilities?

With EFT you can ease discomfort and free yourself to move forward.

EFT works by gently tapping acupressure points, while you 'tune in' to a negative emotion, to restore balance in your energy system.

“Why would I need to ease the discomfort from an experience that took place years ago?”

Very few of us take the time to deal with and resolve each of the upsetting events that we experience; we’re simply too busy trying to cope.  We might reassure ourselves that “time is a great healer”, we bravely soldier on trying to convince ourselves that we’re “over it”, “it’s done and dusted”, these memories can no longer trouble us; but the sad reality is they often do.  We may appear to function normally but the after-effects of the unresolved issue can remain just under the surface, preventing us from achieving our goals, impeding our progress and stopping us from living life to the full.

By including Emotional Freedom Techniques in my therapy work clients have successfully resolved a wide range of phobias; fears; traumas; anxieties; self-confidence issues; lack of self-esteem; neutralised negative emotions; overcome anger management issues and dismantled limiting beliefs that were holding them back.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP):

Neuro-Linguistic Programming comprises a set of tried and tested techniques, a toolbox if you like, which I dip into to help clients unpick the strategies they use to hold them back.  Once these strategies have been addressed I can then use my skills help you change your behaviours and responses.  Not surprisingly, one of the cornerstones of NLP is hypnotherapy.  The reason for this is that the co-founders of NLP, Richard Bandler and John Grinder carefully studied how Milton H Erickson, a psychotherapist and master of hypnotherapy, achieved such good outcomes for his patients.  Bandler and Grinder analysed and recorded the detailed steps Erickson took to resolve his clients’ issues so that other therapists keen to achieve similar success with their patients could successfully adopt the same techniques.  It’s not surprising that hypnotherapy and NLP make perfect bed-fellows.

Still wondering why you should I book an appointment to work with me?

For over fifteen years I have been helping people to:

  • resolve anxiety, fears, and phobias
  • become non-smokers or lose weight
  • break habits like nail biting, blushing or teeth grinding (bruxism)
  • overcome addictions
  • ease pain and discomfort
  • manage anger issues
  • become at ease with public speaking and performance
  • get a better night’s sleep
  • manage stress
  • build confidence and self-esteem
  • achieve their goals
  • or simply learn how to relax

The therapies I use are natural and transformative, they can help you in ways you probably never thought possible. In fact, some clients come to me with one issue which, once unravelled and resolved, brings unexpected benefits in other areas of their lives - why not experience this yourself?

If you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, held back by negative experiences or fears; perhaps there’s a habit you need to break or a physical or emotional condition that you’ve heard may be alleviated with hypnotherapy?

Call me now on 07834 754608 for a chat and and maybe book a free half-hour exploratory consultation so you can learn how I can help you live the life you truly want.

Testimonials

“My 9 year old son had one treatment and it has made a significant difference to his anxiety and behavioural issues.  It has turned our lives around for the better and we have never been happier!  I truly believe you do some amazing and life changing work.  Sincerest thanks.”  E Hardy, Bedfordshire

"I came to see Heather after being recommended by a good friend. I wanted to try and deal with a deep set fear of dying and leaving my children, which I just couldn't shake off. I was starting to panic even when I heard of other people with children being ill. I had four appointments with Heather but these sessions expanded into discussions around many other issues that also impacted on my life. The difference that Heather made was amazing, my fear of dying just quietly went away without me even realising. She had a massive effect on my worries around flying too.   She is a lovely warm person and very easy to be with. I would recommend her for specific issues or just a general life approach tune up."  C Smith, Hertfordshire

"Hi Heather, Just a quick line to say thank you. I came to the EFT session with a 44 year old fear trigger, and an hour later, you'd transformed it into a friendly trigger, one that both calmed and empowered me to take appropriate action. If I hadn't experienced this for myself I wouldn't have believed it was possible, and in just one session, and via Skype - amazing!  Thank you so much Heather." Natasha J, Berkshire

"I went to see Heather to help me with my fear and panic due to my very bad gag reflex which prevented me from benefitting from visiting my dentist. After three sessions of hypnotherapy I am 100% improved.  All the work has been completed and I am at last happy to smile in public!  Thank you Heather!"   Lisa B, Welwyn Garden City
