I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist and my small private practice is located in central Edinburgh. I have experience working with adults, older children and teenagers who present a wide range of behavioural and emotional issues and relationship problems. My therapeutic approach assumes an existential-humanistic framework that is informed by analytic hypnotherapy, rational emotive behaviour hypnotherapy, attachment theory, relational psychoanalysis, dream work, and literature and research.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am an insured, qualified and registered hypnotherapist and hold a Certificate and Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, and a Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma from the London College of Clinical Hypnosis, British Society of Clinical Hypnosis (BSCH). I also obtained a Certificate in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy from Regent's College, and at present I am training as a hypno-psychotherapist with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (NCHP). The NCHP is regulated by the United Kingdom Council of Psychotherapy (UKCP). This means that I attend regular supervision and continuous professional development.
In addition, I am a research assistant in clinical psychology at the University of Edinburgh. I am also registered psychologist and I have a PhD in Linguistics with a research focus upon psychoanalytic concepts of language behaviour. I have presented papers at international conferences and published articles in journals on the subjects of body boundaries and emotion language in everyday awareness and altered states of consciousness, as well as the psychodynamic development of social ideologies. I am also the co-founding editor of the journal "Language and Psychoanalysis".
Moreover, I am regularly involved in local community projects, such as co-facilitating a mental well-being workshop funded by the Primary Care Trust, and volunteering as an art tutor at a psychiatric day-center of the Maudsley Hospital and a third-party hate crime report centre.
I hold a Certificate and Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy, a Practitioner Diploma in Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy, a Certificate in Integrative Counselling and Psychotherapy, a Practitioner Diploma in Emotional Freedom Technique, a BA in Fine Art, a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychology and a MA in Applied Linguistics.
Professional bodies of which I am a member include the British Psychological Society, the British Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the IBS Register, the International Association for the Study of Dreams, and the National Society of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy & Mindfulness.
