Pauline Brumwell MNCS GHR Reg
I am a Psychotherapeutic Counsellor and Hypnotherapist, located in the centre of Harrogate. I have worked as a therapist in a variety of settings for more than thirty years and offer effective and confidential help with a range of problems including: depression; anxiety; recovery from trauma, problems experienced by adults who have suffered childhood abuse and neglect; stress and anger management; difficulties with low self confidence and self esteem; weight and body image problems; and addictions, (including smoking, nicotine gum, alcohol and gambling addiction).
I believe that people have an inbuilt capacity to recover and find ways to move beyond even the most difficult circumstances and feelings and that hypnosis can create a state of focused relaxation that may be used where appropriate to enhance this process.
While hypnotherapy can often be effective as a short term method when dealing with straightforward habits or problems, it is also important to ensure that any underlying causes of these problems are dealt with. If this doesn't happen, the problem may come back, or re-emerge in a different form. For instance, someone may successfully stop smoking but then start to over-eat and develop a weight problem.
I believe that it is always worth investing the time and commitment to check for, and clear any underlying issues. Generally people have a really good idea of how deep-seated a problem is and I always aim to take this into account when planning our work together.
I offer a free, no-obligation telephone consultation for prospective new clients to discuss this further.

I offer a free initial consultation on the telephone or by Skype. By the end of this session I should be able to give you a good idea of how I would be able to work with you.
If you decide to continue with therapy, I charge £40-00 per session.
I understand that finances are tight for many people in the current economic climate and am happy to discuss ways of spreading payments if this would be helpful for you.
I may also be able to offer reduced payments for people on low incomes requiring longer term therapy.
I provide free self-hypnosis CDs and other materials where appropriate as part of a course of hypnotherapy.
I find hypnotherapy highly effective in enhancing relaxation, reducing anxiety and stress and increasing self-esteem and motivation. It can also be a very useful way of finding new solutions to problems, even if those problems have been bothering you for some time.
Hypnotherapy for a specific problem generally only takes a few sessions (I should be able to give you some idea of how many after our initial consultation).
However, if people have suffered serious or ongoing neglect, separation or abuse as children; or long term abuse, multiple traumas or bereavements at any stage of their lives, they may find that longer term therapy would be more helpful for them.
