Profile
I first became involved in talk therapy as a 16 year old volunteer in a hospital, and discovered how rewarding it was to help take patient's minds off their problems. These were mostly physical ailments and yet just by talking and listening, I found that patients needed less pain control medication. This prompted me to specialise in Hypnosis when taking the plunge to work as a therapist, and I haven't looked back. My main interest is in ethical practice and ongoing personal development, because of this I was given the honour of the position of Director Of Development within The National Council For Hypnotherapy.
I theorise that the reason Hypnosis works is because it enables the learning process to accelerate. The final stage of learning how to do anything, whether that is learning to drive, learning to walk or learning to be a non smoker is to be able to do it without thinking. In the real world that process can take a lot of repetition and during which can feel difficult or out of character, but by accelerating the ability to move the process from being a conscious process to being a subconscious process, where you can do it and not have to think about it, means that what would normally take forever to feel normal when not using Hypnosis, can take only a few sessions of Hypnotherapy.
The reasons why clients may have already been trying for many months or years to rid themselves of the issue and not manage it is because the unwanted behaviour is still being repeated and usually with greater intensity than the required behaviour. But with Hypnosis we can trick a part of your mind into thinking you must have been without your issue for years and a habit that is not fed is soon gone.
Training, Qualifications & Experience
My original training was with The Essex Institute Of Clinical Hypnosis and I have further developed my skills with various other training organisations including A Self Hypnosis Instructors Course, Hypnosis For Birthing, The HPD which is the National Diploma in Hypnotherapy, which is the nationally recognised qualification, equivalent to NVQ Level 4 and is accredited through NCFE.
I am also currently studying for a diploma in Hypno-Psychotherapy with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. This leads to UKCP accreditation and is an advanced practitioners course enabling me to deal with issues outside of basic Hypnotherapists skill base.
