About me

Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMN)

Certificate in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy from the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy (Distinction)

Hello, I have trained and qualified with the National College of Hypnosis and Psychotherapy. This course is at masters level and is accredited by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy. The UKCP is one of the UK’s leading professional bodies for education, training and accreditation of psychotherapists.

The starting point for help is always, getting to know you, gently and empathically exploring the issues that are important for you and then discussing and deciding on the best ways of helping you reach your goals. This help would be guided by the principles of a variety of approaches including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness. For many hypnosis greatly enhances this process. For some people hypnosis is the main form of help that they need.

Therapy gives you the opportunity to talk about your problems, thoughts, feelings and the important issues in your life. This is done in a calm, sympathetic and accepting way, where you will be able to feel increasingly confident that you will be respected and not judged. This helps people gain the confidence to talk about sensitive issues that they may feel embarrassed about or even ashamed of.

There can be a great sense of relief after talking, helping you to see situations more clearly, looking at courses of action available to them and the strengths they can build on.

Hypnosis and learning and practicing self hypnosis has been shown to help this process enormously. Many people have been found they are able to relax for the first time. They have  been able to change unhelpful and self defeating ways of thinking. They have discovered strengths and personal resources that have been locked inside them, greatly improving their lives, relationships and sense of purpose.

I have worked as a community mental health nurse (CMHN) since 1987. During my career as a CMHN I have worked with people with a wide range of mental health problems. For most of the past 13 years I have worked in teams that focussed on helping people with problems such as depression, anxiety, eating disorders and people whose traumatic early experiences have left them very vulnerable to feeling distressed and overwhelmed by problems they encounter.

Choosing a therapist is a very important decision. Please contact me to talk about coming for therapy. I am very happy to answer any questions you might have without obligation.

I abide by the code of ethics of the NCHP and the CNHC, copies of which can be found on their websites.
