I qualified as a Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy Practitioner at the prestigious Clifton Practice based in Bristol. My Practice is based in Central London but I have also been working in France and Spain. Very early on, I specialized in stress, depression and anxiety related issues, conditions experienced by so many people nowadays but I can also help with a wide range of other issues.
Whether you have an emotional or psychological problem or just want to feel better about yourself, hypnotherapy can and will help you to make the desired changes, enabling you to reach a positive outcome. Following my training at the Clifton Practice and subsequent workshops/seminars over the last five years, I have been able to help people seeking hypnotherapy for conditions such as:
- stress management
- post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)
- fears and phobias
- exam nerves
- anger management
- self esteem issues
I am a member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy (NCH) and the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH).
For me, there is nothing as rewarding as seeing people from all walks of life freeing themselves from deep-rooted issues they have often felt burdened with for many years and then fulfill their potential, letting go of what was holding them back. I have an excellent success rate in helping people achieve their goals, whether in their personal or in their professional lives. I am also very pleased to say that a large number of my clients come as a result of referrals from satisfied clients.
Hypnotherapy is a relatively brief form of therapy and the goal is to work with you for the shortest time necessary to help you achieve your aims. We will meet for an initial consultation (offered free of charge) before the actual hypnotherapy sessions start.
Initial consultations are absolutely essential in so far as they will allow you to ask any questions you might have about hypnotherapy and explore with me beforehand what it is you actually want to achieve through therapy.
I will also explain how the brain works, looking at thought patterns and their impact on our everyday life and will give you a short questionnaire. If you decide you want to proceed with treatment, sessions will be "tailor-made", focusing on self-concordant goals.
Training, qualifications & experience
I am fully qualified to practice. I have a HPD (Hypnotherapy Practitioner Diploma) and DHP (Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy).
I trained at The Clifton Practice, based in Bristol. The Clifton Practice is and has been a recognised centre of excellence in Hypnotherapy Training for many years. It is run by David Newton and Susan Rodrigues ((http://www.thecliftonpractice.co.uk/).
I can help with a whole range of issues.
"Helping me get past my fear of public speaking?" "Improving my golf game?" "Helping me relax during exams?" "Curing my insomnia?" Etc. Let's put it this way: think for a moment about any issue in your life that you'd like to improve and ask yourself, "Does my mind interact with this issue/activity in any way? Do my thoughts/beliefs affect my performance? Do my feelings contribute to my experiences in this area? Have I had past experiences that are reinforcing my beliefs/thoughts/emotions in a negative way? Is it my expectation that I will NOT get the results I desire?"
Are you getting the picture?... Each person is unique and each person comes to therapy with their unique experiences and viewpoint on life. But the mind, body and emotions are all closely connected. Whatever you want to look at, I'm not aware of ANY issue that can not be at least significantly improved/relieved through the use of hypnotherapy.
There is always a positive effect from hypnotherapy. When emotional pain and trauma are released from the subconscious mind and the physical body's stored stress is released from your cells, you can finally experience calmness, peace and a feeling of joy from resolving an old issue. You can actually learn to let go of old hurts and angers so that they no longer affect you physically and emotionally.
Areas of hypnotherapy I deal with
- Low self-esteem
- Obsessions and compulsions *
- Pain management *
- Panic attacks *
- Phobias *
- Post-traumatic stress disorder *
- Public speaking
* If you have been diagnosed or suspect you may have one of the medical conditions starred above, you should consult your GP for advice, diagnosis and treatment and always inform your health professional before starting any alternative or additional therapies or treatments.
Other areas of hypnotherapy I deal with
I often find myself having to dispel a few myths about hypnotherapy. Because of what they've seen on TV shows or in movies, many people believe, for example, that hypnotherapy basically amounts to mind-control. This couldn't be further away from the truth as no one under hypnosis can be induced to do anything against his or her will. Whatever moral and ethical codes you hold in a normal waking state will still be in place under hypnosis. Your subconscious mind was formed when you were about age five and its job is to protect and help you. Just like you cannot be made to do anything against your moral code, you will not say anything that is embarrassing and will not reveal more than you are comfortable doing.
If a hypnotherapist’s suggestion conflicts with a client's value system, the client simply brings him or herself up out of hypnosis: they just "wake up", refusing to engage with the process.
And so..., let me reassure you, once again, that you are in complete control at all times. Hypnotherapy will unfold and guide you through a gentle, loving and non-judgmental process.
The first session or initial consultation (about 45 minutes) is free. It will give you a much better understanding of how the brain works and a greater awareness of your though patterns. If you have any questions about hypnotherapy, I will also be more than happy to answer them. Should you decide to proceed with subsequent sessions, we will then schedule our first session.
Subsequent sessions are £50 each (1-hour sessions) and are booked at your convenience on a session-by-session basis (usually on a weekly basis to start with).

What is Hypnosis:
The National Council for Hypnotherapy (of which I am a member) describes hypnosis as follows:
Opinions vary on the exact definition of this natural state of mind. First of all, contrary to what many people believe, hypnosis is not always a trance state or a sleep state even though a person in hypnosis may appear to be sleeping. Hypnosis is really a natural state of mind and is an important part of everyday life. Whenever our mind wanders, daydreams or is focused on something, such as reading a book, driving a familiar route or watching a film we are in a state of hypnosis.
People who are in a hypnotic state are known to slow down their brain waves from a Beta state to an Alpha state, sometimes in a deep trance this could also be to a theta state. This is not dissimilar to the level of brain activity experienced during meditation.
Solution Focused Hypnotherapy - Where Neuroscience, Modern Talking Therapy and Hypnosis Meet.
Many people relate to the state of hypnosis by remembering a time when they have been driving for some distance before realizing that they have no awareness of having driven the last few miles. Research shows that we enter this state of mind on average every seven minutes and that it plays an important role in the process of learning and taking on board new information.
During trance we are able to quieten the voice in our heads that stems from the conscious part of our brain. In so doing we gain access to the sub conscious mind which is less judgemental and can take on board information, ideas and suggestions far more readily. Modern tools such as MRI scanners have demonstrated that whilst we are in this state of hypnosis we are using different parts of the brain, in particular those same areas we use for decision making and error detection.
As a clinical hypnotherapist I will help you utilise this state to encourage positive change, allow you to achieve your full potential and achieve your goals whatever they may be. This trance state is created through the use of relaxation and visualisation techniques. Trance is merely an altered state of consciousness we all experience every day (mostly without realizing it). It is a pleasant experience which can differ between individuals.
