Let me introduce myself; my name is Simon Maryan, I have been using hypnosis for over 25 years and have put it to good use in a variety of forms during that time.
I take advantage of my military background use my knowledge and experience to help those suffering with trauma and PTSD. This initially started out with just military and ex-military personnel and has now extended to anyone who is struggling with these conditions. I have worked with rape victims, natural disaster and various types of accidents as well as the military theses days.
I am extremely passionate about hypnosis and its ability to enable people to find what it is they are looking for and I have spent many years learning from the people I consider to be the best in the field.
I run a private practice based out of Aberdeen and work with several GP practices in Aberdeenshire. I have worked with patients presenting a wide variety of issues which are listed at the bottom of my profile page. Although I specialise in working with patents suffering from trauma, depression and anxiety, last year I launched several new packages which you can find on my blog, just click on this link: http://www.simonmaryan1.wordpress.com/brain2body-products/
I also run a training company HCT (Hypnosis Coaching and Training) providing training in the following:
- Behavioural Coaching
- NLP - Diploma, Business Diploma, Sports Diploma, Practitioner & Master Practitioner
Q: What is hypnosis anyway? I have an idea, but I really don’t understand.
A: Simply put…hypnosis is a relaxed, focused state of concentration where the subject (person being hypnotized) is in a more heightened state of awareness by focusing their attention inwardly. You are not exactly comatose or in a sleep walking phase, but you are deeply relaxed and focused inwardly while allowing suggestions to take root in your subconscious mind by hyper focusing on the sound of my voice.
As a matter of fact, you could get up and walk out of the room at any time. You probably won’t do that because you will notice how nice it feels to be in this deeply relaxed state of awareness, but you will have the knowing that you could do it if you so choose.
You might even be surprised to know hypnosis is a natural state that we go in and out of at least four times an hour. (Have you ever been driving and missed your exist because you were deep in thought, or couldn’t find something that was right in front you? You were in a state of trance!)
Q: When I book a hypnotherapist for a session, what can I expect?
A: I don’t know about all hypnotherapists, but with me, in the first session we go over what is blocking you, or what it is you want to get out of the inductions. Then I lead you through the induction process, which is simply guided mediation, to get your body to relax. It’s actually very nice. Once your body is completely relaxed, I’ll do what is called a deepener on you (which is still guided meditation but it gets your mind to relax as deeply as your body has relaxed.)
Once you are in a nice state of trance, I give suggestions for your health and well being. Then I emerge you from trance and get your feedback on how you thought the session went. That’s it. Simple!
Q: Who may benefit from Hypnotherapy?
A: The answer to this question is ‘virtually everyone’. Given that hypnotherapy can be utilised to access a person’s inner potential - and that probably no one is performing to their actual potential - then this answer is literally true. However, it is not just potential which Hypnotherapy is well placed to address but also one’s inner resources to effect beneficial change. In this regard, it is the innate healing capacity of our own body that may be stimulated by Hypnotherapy.
Consequently, the list of problems which may be amenable to Hypnotherapy is far too long and varied to catalogue but certainly includes: stress, anxiety, panic, phobias, unwanted habits and addictions (e.g. smoking, overeating, alcoholism), disrupted sleep patterns, lack of confidence and low self-esteem, fear of examinations and public speaking.
Additionally, it has proved of value within surgery, where normal anaesthetics have not been practical, in the wider sphere of pain management and in the areas of both sporting and artistic performance enhancement. As an adjunct to other counselling techniques, it can also assist in helping to resolve relationship difficulties and be useful within anger management strategies.
