Training, qualifications & experience
My name is Sarah Whittaker, I am a fully qualified Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist.
My main areas of interest are Phobias, Anxiety and PTSD.
I am the lecturer in Emetophobia with the Hospital Hypnotherapy Service.
There are many hypnotherapists out there, so what makes me different?
Hypnotherapy worked for me.
Every person I see is an individual with their own fears, symptoms and history. I would never be so bold as to say I know how everyone feels, but I know how I felt.
Panic attacks night and day, a severe phobia, off the scale anxiety and then plunging depression. I remember wondering if I was going 'mad', believing that I was the only one who felt that way and that there was nothing I could do about it.
I tried hypnotherapy after other therapies had failed and it worked.
During the initial consultation you will learn why stress affects us in the way it does, why our brain reacts in the way it does, and how hypnotherapy can help you take back control so you can live the life you should be living.
I hold the Hypnotherapy Practitioners Diploma, generally regarded as the Gold Standard hypnotherapy qualification, which I gained along with the Diploma in Hypnotherapy and Psychotherapy from my training at The Clifton Practice in Bristol, one of the foremost Hypnotherapy training schools in the country.
I am a registered member of the National Council for Hypnotherapy and bound by their strict code of ethics, the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapists and the Government backed Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council.
The Hospital Hypnotherapy Service
The Hospital Hypnotherapy Service has been set up to provide hypnotherapy for patients undergoing chemotherapy within the haematology department of the University Hospital of Wales Cardiff.
It is available to patients on the haematology ward (B4), the haematology day unit and within the Teenage Cancer Trust Unit.
The service was set up to provide help for those patients who are affected by anticipatory nausea and vomiting associated with chemotherapy but the team are also able to help with a wide range of anxiety related issues, including needle phobia and acute pain management.
In 2016 we won the Beacon of Hope award from the Lymphoma Association for our work.
The team of Clinical Hypnotherapists all trained with the prestigious Clifton Practice and hold the Hypnotherapy Practitioners Diploma as well as enhanced DBS checks.
If you are interested in learning more about this service please speak to you specialist nurse at UHW who can refer you to us.
