Thwaite St Mary
Life can be full of ups and downs and all too often there is little or no opportunity to take time for yourself to work through these changes and adapt… leading to problems becoming bigger and more consuming. Or it may be that you have some unwanted habits, thoughts or behaviours that are impacting on your life and you wish to overcome and change them.
I provide private and confidential counselling and hypnotherapy in a tranquil location just 13 miles south of Norwich close to the Norfolk/Suffolk border.
As a qualified and registered hypnotherapist, I can offer you the time to talk about any worries and changes you may like to make to your life, and to explore ways to promote a sense of well-being. My practice provides you with a supportive, understanding and non-judgemental approach dedicated to your individual needs.
I work with adults and young people on an open-ended basis with the aim of promoting positive growth, enabling you to enhance your life and to live it more fully.
About hypnotherapy and how it can help?
Hypnotherapy is a well researched and safe form of psychotherapy that utilises the power of positive suggestion to bring about subconscious change to our thoughts, feelings and behaviour. It isn’t something that is done to you like the media so often depicts, but it is something that you do yourself, I simply facilitate it.
Hypnotherapy is an induced state of deep relaxation during which the subconscious part of our brain is engaged and alert, and becomes receptive to positive suggestion and change. It is the subconscious mind that controls our behaviours and feelings which it learns through our past experiences and an ingrained belief system. The subconscious is extremely powerful and can influence and control our more rational conscious mind which can then make us behave in ways which are often unwanted.
Hypnotherapy is an extremely effective way of breaking bad and unwanted habits and thought patterns and replacing these with more positive alternatives. The uses and rewards of hypnotherapy are endless and often incredibly rapid, and I am happy to answer any questions you may have about your own personal needs and goals.
Can anyone be hypnotised?
Hypnosis has the capacity to work for the majority of individuals but some are more susceptible to suggestions than others. The most important thing to remember is that you must be fully committed to the process and your goal and it's important to keep an open mind.
Is it possible to get “stuck” in a hypnotic state?
No, just like it is not possible to get stuck in sleep this will not happen. I will gently bring you back to full awareness at the end of the session.
Am I in control during a hypnotherapy session?
A common concern people have about hypnotherapy is that they are going to be under some kind of hypnotic ‘spell’ and made to do all kinds of strange and random things. This isn’t the case as you will always be in full control during the hypnotherapy session. As a therapist, I cannot force you to do or say anything that you don’t want to. I am simply here to help you achieve the change that you’ve come see me about. When you are in hypnosis you know who and where you are, but you are also strongly focused on what’s happening inside. You still have your own free will and choice at all times.
How many sessions of hypnotherapy will I need?
It depends upon what you want to change as to how long it will take. As a guide, two to six sessions are required to resolve most problems, however, some take less. For example, smoking cessation is often achieved in just one session.
Is it confidential?
Everything you communicate to me is treated in the strictest confidence. I am fully committed to and abide by the National Counselling Society’s Ethical Framework.
I will never break confidence unless I have concerns about your safety, or the safety of other people.
All ethical therapists discuss their clients with a supervisor as a professional requirement. Supervision is designed to protect your interests and to assist me in my professional development. Your full name will not be given to my supervisor.
What can I expect in my first session and how many will I need?
All clients are invited to come for a free, no obligation initial consultation at my practice within a tranquil and relaxing setting. During this session you will have the opportunity to meet with me, ask any questions you may have about hypnotherapy, discuss your particular needs and goals and ascertain whether hypnotherapy is right for you.
