Hi I'm Melanie Gillespie, I'm a friendly, fully qualified Solution Focused Clinical Hypnotherapist and Psychotherapist based in Frenchay, Bristol.
I am deeply passionate about helping my clients to achieve their goals and make positive changes in their life. I have used the skills I acquired in training to apply to my own life and have been totally blown away by the results! Hypnotherapy has enabled me to not only overcome a seven year phobia of motorway driving but also to achieve a relaxed and enjoyable childbirth with my second child, following a traumatic first birth experience.

What is hypnotherapy?
Our complex human brain is often compared to a giant iceberg. On the surface is the conscious part accounting for approximately 10% of our behaviour. Underneath the surface lies the subconscious, this part of the brain accounts for approximately 90% of our behaviour. Much of the subconscious behaviour we have learnt is beneficial to us, for example slamming the brakes on to avoid a car accident or putting your hands out when you fall. However, we can also store behavioural patterns that we don't desire, such as overeating when we're stressed or having a panic attack before boarding an aeroplane.
Hypnotherapy uses the very powerful state of trance to bring both parts of the brain together to focus on the same objective. This is a very natural state to be in, much like the feeling just before you fall asleep, but allows us access to the subconscious with whatever objectives we have decided upon in the conscious part of the brain. this enables us to create the positive changes in our life that we desire.
What is Solution Focused Brief Therapy
In conjunction with hypnotherapy, I practise solution Focused Brief Therapy. Using elements of CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) and NLP (neurolinguistic programming) SFBT is a highly effective psychotherapeutic tool which, as the name suggests, focuses on creating solutions rather than solving problems. This means we won't be dwelling on past traumatic experiences or looking for what caused the problem. Instead I can help you envisage the future that you would like, and then we make small steps to achieve it. I believe it is important that therapy should be a fun and enjoyable experience!
Training, qualifications & experience
I spent ten years working in health and social care prior to studying at the prestigious Clifton Practice, a nationally recognised centre of excellence in hypnotherapy training, where I obtained my Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH). I am now a member of the Association for Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (AfSFH) and adhere to their requirements and code of conduct. I also hold a fully enhanced DBS check and I am fully insured.

Initial Consultation (approx 30-45 mins) FREE
I offer a friendly and informal Initial consultation lasting approximately 30-45 mins. In this appointment i will take a brief history from you and discuss how you would like therapy to help. I will explain how the brain works in relation to the area you would like help in and what hypnotherapy can do. No hypnosis will take place in this meeting, however you will be given a free relaxation CD to take away and listen to before you go to sleep, this will help maximise your therapy. This is an ideal opportunity for you to ask me any questions you have and to decide if I am the right hypnotherapist for you. This consultation is free of charge and you are under no obligation to continue if you wish not to.
Subsequent Hypnotherapy sessions (lasting approximately 1 hour) £50
Hypnotherapy for childbirth £180 package for an initial consultation and 4 hypnotherapy sessions
Stopping smoking usually only requires one session (approx 90 mins) and no initial consultation is required £100
Payment can be made by either cash, cheque or bank transfer
Where do I practise from?
I practise from a discreet and private consulting room in my garden, so there is no need to worry about bumping into someone you know in a waiting room!
